Awakening of Psychic Kings! New Japanese Set in 2016!

Awakening of Alakazam without Kadabra Once Again
The first new set in Japan for 2016 has been announced to be called Awakening of Psychic Kings. This set will be featuring Alakazam EX and M Alakazam EX. Based on the last set and the name of this set, it sounds like Awakening of Psychic Kings will feature Psychic type Pokemon. This set will be part of the XY Break block and will feature 78 cards if you do not count secret rares.

It is also interesting to note that this will be the first time that Alakazam will be featured in the TCG since Generation 4. The reasons why Alakazam hasn’t been in the TCG for such a long time could be due to a lawsuit with Uri Geller over the Japanese name for Kadabra which is Yungerer and a card released in a Team Rocket set called ‘Dark Yungerer’. Since that lawsuit, the Pokemon TCG has been finding ways to avoid printing a Kadabra card by having Abra evolving directly into Alakazam or making Alakazam a Basic Pokemon. It looks like this time Pokemon will be making Alakazam into a Basic Pokemon with Alakazam EX.

Awakening of Psychic Kings will be released on March 18th in Japan. No word on when this set will be release in the United States.

Also being released on March 18th is M Audino EX Mega Battle Deck and Zygarde EX Perfect Battle Deck. Both of these decks will feature 60 cards. These sets will feature the introduction of M Audino EX and Perfect Zygarde EX in the TCG. Based on the fact that we are getting Zygarde in one of the decks, it looks as if Zygarde may not be featured in a set anytime soon. If you are trying to speculate about future games then it looks like we may not get any new game news anytime soon unless Pokemon wants to make a new Zygarde card in the future.

The future of the Pokemon TCG is shaping up to be quite interesting with so many new cards coming.
