I need to start using Photoshop more. Ever since I got SAI I've been way to reliant on it for my art and that has caused me to become too complacent. Especially because I wasn't that great with Photoshop to begin with...

Heh, I'm exactly the opposite. I need to try using SAI for doing my own art rather than using anime or official art images.

But yeah, breaking out of comfort zones is tough, because you want to experiment and learn new things, but it eats time and you're never sure if what you're going to do will actually help.

It really is. I have photoshop and a drawing tablet and I still like normal paint more.

I want to look up tutorials, but right now I can't really afford to do that since I'm so busy with other projects. Because yeah, time.

I feel tutorials are hands down the best way to learn. Even if half way through you deviate from them for whatever reason, they're great for at least getting you started.

Yeah, and in some cases they can be the only real option one has if one isn't very good at self-teaching. In fact, I'd say that even with a good ability to self-teach people should look up tutorials and references anyway, since it's always good to learn more.

And about Paint, even if I wanted to go back to it I wouldn't be able to because the program has gone the way of the dinosaurs...

I'm apparently really good at self-teaching, because almost all of what i know, i have taught myself.
Games, no tutorial.
Art, was forced to listen to some nut job blabber about not looking at the paper, quit, taught myself. I am completely self-taught in the digital art field.
Music, taught myself, except the piano, ty synthesia.
Now making pizzas i had to have help, but now i am really good at it.

Most of my Photoshop skills are tutorial/self-taught. Usually what I do is learn from a tutorial, and then mess around with it in different ways to make my own style.
