It's funky. I like the world of the first PMD games (Rescue Team Red/Blue) the most, but I like the storyline of the second ones (Darkness/Time/Sky) better. And then there's the fact Gates to Infinity has my favorite Pokemon, Emolga, as a major playable character, but the fourth one is updated with all new Pokemon.

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO DEAL WITH THIS!?

That's the dilemma with the PMD series. And don't forget the amazing soundtrack from PSMD!

The Mystery Dungeon games hold a special place in my heart still. The Rescue Team games are what got me officially back into Pokémon at the time. Time/Darkness/Sky are what made sure it was real. I loved the characters and storyline. Gates was a big game changer. It brought the new music style and gameplay mechanics. Then oh boy, PSMD. It's nearly on par with Sky. I WANT ANOTHER PMD GAME!!!! >u<

But Gen 1 & 2 are my favs, not the only ones i like, but they are the best imo. I only played Mystery Dungeon Red, so I can't say about the rest of those.

I remember that when I first started playing the Pokemon games I gave my team some really crappy movesets. My Sceptile had like three Grass moves (which I believe were Leaf Blade, Giga Drain and Bulet Seed) plus Quick Attack. Truly garbage. I still don't get how I was able to win anything with movepools like those XP

Probably because the NPCs aren't always hard to defeat.
