Shame we can't share insider information about which pokemon are where. ;) I can tell you that you'll find a lot of them quite easily, not even on specific threads. You can also find them in "outside the box" ways, so click on every part of the forum you can see! XD

Are their shiny Pokemon here? If so is encountering one just as scarcely random as in the games?

You can get shiny Pokemon through completing special challenges. The way it works is you basically choose what Pokemon you want to turn into a shiny rather than finding shiny Pokemon outright.
