For once, I'd like to see a PMD game that doesn't have amnesia as part of the opening storyline. It would be neat if your character is aware of their mission (at least before things go plot twist crazy) instead, but not everything is as it seems. There are still a whole slew of challenges they could face and an infinite number of potential storylines they could explore. But yeah, I just feel as though they kind of tired out the whole amnesia thing.

There was mention. It's mostly pretty early in TDS. Then later on when major plots are being revealed in the game. It's very subtle, but it's not like what was revealed in GTI, no. It was very much revealed though in TDS. It's not only your partner that mentions it.

@Neo Emolga well in GTI you don't have amnesia, but you aren't entirely aware of your mission. Kinda just have that vision at the beginning with nothing else to go on, but later on you find out why. You might have gotten a full explanation if not for that vision. Thing I feel that the amnesia thing makes it work in favor of the character. I still feel without that there's some odd effects that may show. A sort of "not used to this new body" effect. Though small for a short time, it'd have some small effect. I knooooow for time saving they probably do whatever game/anime does and says "screw reality's rules". It's just if you're a 5ft tall human one day for 20+ years straight. Then suddenly you wake up and you're a 1ft tall Pokémon, with fur covering your entire body, paws, a tail (especially Pikachu in this case since it's tail is what it uses to keep balance on 2 feet....or paws). I still feel aside from game/anime logic there's a lot of that to take into consideration. Let alone using the powers, though soon enough they become natural instinct. I think with the amnesia thing it all comes down to the body and mind's natural instinct kicking in. Since you're now a Pokémon and the body is entirely foreign. Yeah...I think waaay out of the box sometimes xD. More so than I probably should.

I don't recall any such mention at all. And any mentions in the other games always referred to humans being from another world. Even PMD RB point out that they had to take you and Gengar and Gardevoir from another world.

And yes as much crap as GtI gets it actually did a lot of things right.

Yeah it's just very veeeeerrrry subtle. So much do in each game they always consider "humans" just lore or fairytales. Yeah the Gengar was taken for a reason just as you were. Though you kinda choose to...actually that's one thing that gets me.

I think we're all missing something pretty serious. If the Pokémon choose to come looking for help and you choose to come into that world willingly...why must they decide you have to leave? Sounds like the Narnia series. Another thing...how do these basic Pokémon have interdeminsional travel/connections? I can understand some..but not all. Much less how do some just outright bring you through into a different world and physically change you into a Pokemon? That would be pretty serious if Pokémon could just suddenly turn you into a Pokémon. I know some can make you change form, switch bodies, etc but not physically change into a Pokémon without Lily's potion or Darkrai's nightmare. Unless they kill you cause there's THAT theory xD.

And yeah I liked GTI for what it did with multiple humans, but it could've been so much better too. Least it used that and not just the "one to save them all."

    It has Emolga!

Yeah, I don't know why GtI doesn't have a better rep. It's a pretty good game and I found it to be a good, fair challenge.

Oh OH I know the answer to that! Or at least have a theory on it. So Gardevoir in RB is essentially in a sort of limbo status. Not quite dead not quite alive. But you'll notice she always refers to whoever brought you over as "we" and it's never really revealed who this "we" is. However, in the post-Groundon events when Gardevoir finally reveals herself, she calls herself an "agent of the spirits". This is also brought up again in the Murky Cave sidequest when you actually meet these spirits, or at least one of them, the "judge of darkness". I have two theories on who these "spirits" are. Originally, my thought process was they were beings that existed beyond the realms of both the human and pokémon worlds. However, with the release of SuMo and USUM, I have come to believe that it's actually possible they are Ultra Beasts, or at least pokémon capable of using ultra wormholes. The "judge of darkness"? It could be Lunala! Think about it, Murky Cave is filled with ghost pokémon and Lunala is one of the only ghost type legendaries so far, so it would make sense. Or it could be Necrozma for USUM spoiler-y reasons.

As interesting as the theory sounds. It's pretty tough to swallow when knowing to compare RB RT to SM and USUM. Mainly cause of gen difference. How Rescue Team was made before gen 4 even came out. There were hints to very few gen 4 in the game at the time (like Lucario). But they had to have had Arceus planned at least. Wouldn't put it past them to leave it an open ended question that could be easily answered with theories like that though. That way things are explained better than "we" or "I brought you here" (and somehow they magically changed) or even better "something caused you to transform into a Pokémon." It's a bit odd and leaves questions. It'd be nice to actually have clear answers one day like we had in GTI and PSMD.

Well here's the interesting thing that I noticed while playing through the mystery dungeon games again. We always get amnesia when traveling through those portals. Think about it for a moment. Both in PSMD and in TDS, we're attacked either while traveling through the portals or right as we exit. What other form of portal system that can send you across time and space is also capable of wiping your memories, but as of the release of USUM has been confirmed to not always do so? Ultra Wormholes. This also somewhat contributes to the Ultra Beasts theory for RB, as they say they wipe your memory as a test, but how would they go about doing this? Uxie in TDS already states their memory wiping capabilities don't extend that far and no ultra beasts that we know of are capable of such abilities. Perhaps they just dropped you through a wormhole.

I get that it's not the most sound theory but I don't want to discount Game Freak. It's very possible they did think that far ahead, or retconned it. After all, it's obvious they've been planning USUM since the development of XY, so why not have it go further back?

Shoot, now I want an Ultra-beast based PMD game. Let's travel through those wormholes as a pokemon yeah?

Portals seem a very dangerous mode of travel. I wonder what kind of risks you get by going through hoopa's portal rings.

Yeah they played with Hoopa's rings in PSMD but not extensively. it would be interesting to see the results of that.
