I had it once and it was okay, but I just preferred photoshop so I use that instead. x) I think GIMP can be useful as well, and Paint Tool SAI is great, although that costs money, I'm pretty sure. =/ You can get a free trial, but those things are annoying. xD

I got a free version of Paint Tool SAI. It was a fan translation.

decided to try my hands at some recolors. Meet Dialgo and Gartle.
EDIT: the reason i named the pokemon like this is because i used colors from different pokemon to recolor these.

Nice sprite recolours. 8D You could post that in the GSS if you wanted. xD I like the ho-oh recolour, but the garchomp's palette is a little strange. The yellowy colour on its belly doesn't really fit, I don't reckon, as it's too light. The shading is a really dark colour too, which doesn't work so well. I think some of the blue is a little too light around the outlines too. Since Garchomp are coloured with dark colours, the sprite is shaded for a dark palette. If you use light colours, you need to compensate and adjust accordingly. Basically: don't have the outlines too light, otherwise it's going to blend with the other shading that you've coloured right inside the outlines. You want to have them distinctly different. x) I dunno if that makes sense or not. xD

No worries, mate. x) Haha, well it's good, but it could use improvement and I think that learning a lesson even from a sprite you don't really want to recolour will serve you well in the long-run anyway. :D

Anyway, looking forward to more art. 8D

Alright, due to having too much free time i have drawn yet another pokemon. Due to a friends suggestion/request i have drawn Mays Bulbasaur. To me the shading looks a bit off on the face but i think the pod on its back is the best ive done with shading yet. also probobly took the longest out of all the pokemon i drew, believe it or not i spent 3+ hours (not consecutive) working on it.

    YES! BULBASAUR!

I love it! Like Mr. Bulbasaur above me, I agree that is a fantastic picture! The shading is a nice touch.

And no, I am not biased.

The shading on Bulbasaur is great. However the outline needs a little work. Under the belly it kind of cuts off. Also the eyes scare me a little..lol.

Overall the color makes it jump out ! just needs a couple of minor touches, including some more work on the background.

Thanks for the suggestions. I agree the backround could use more attention. Also i didn't even notice just how bad the outline in that spot looked.
