Up here, camping in winter would be like rolling dice. Might be okay some days, or you might find yourself swimming in the white stuff.
I went camping back when I was a girl scout. Well "camping". You know how it really is.
Never really enjoyed it though. I get eaten alive by mosquitoes.
I imagine it would be a lot more fun doing it with friends and doing what you want to do rather than being a kid doing what an adult wants you to do. During this last camping trip, we played board games, drunk alcohol, had chats by the fire until 2AM, cooked and ate whatever we felt like whenever we wanted to, and things of that nature. I imagine that's definitely not what you did in girl scouts. :P
As for the mosquitoes, yeah, go nutty with the bug spray. Wear it even as you go to sleep because you never know what buggers decided to sneak into your tent when you weren't looking.
Our camping is probably more comfortable than it should be. Air mattresses and usually a portable air conditioner or heater that my dad, whose pretty handy, has whipped up. Always love how food tastes when cooked out in the fresh air, though. Lots of great nights out by the campfire, and I always love bringing back a blanket that smells of woodsmoke.
I tried using an exercise mat as a mattress and it worked a little bit, but I still don't think it was enough. My only thing is I do have air mattress, but I'd have to either pump it by hand or use the electronic pump at the main building, carry it across all the camp sites, and hope it fits through my tent door while fully inflated (I don't think it would).
Cooking the food is great. If you're good at grilling, cooking it over a fire is essentially the same kind of deal. I took some MREs to the camping trip and those are pretty good and while you don't have to cook them, I think they're a lot better if you do. But yeah, you could spend hours by the campfire just chatting about whatever and you'll never notice how quickly the hours fly by. When you have good friends that enjoy that kind of thing, it can be quite fun despite the bugs and such.
Yeah my work has a lot of things for those. Air mattresses, sleeping bags, foot air pumps, air pumps, electric air pumps, floor mats for the tents, up to a 12 person tent, etc. it's insane some of the things for it all out there.

Oh yeah definitely not. The stories I could tell from Girl Scouts were uh... less than ideal camping trips. TLDR we camped near a boy scout campsite and there were scorpions involved.
That doesn't work for me sadly. Doesn't matter how much bug spray I'm wearing, I'm just a magnet.
Dunno about Boy Scouts or especially Girl Scouts (except for their cookies xD), but I have been to the Boys Club in my town....whiiiiiiich is now Boys AND Girls Club of Georgia.

I did only a year of cub scouts when I was a kid. Mostly arts and crafts stuff and minor volunteer work things. Nothing really all that noteworthy.
