Yeah on top of being restricted to only Black 2 and White 2, you could only change the game to hard or easy mode if you had completed the games first anyway. Then for hard mode it was like 5 level higher, additional pokemon, new movesets, different items, and slightly smarter AI but like you said I've heard it wasn't hard.
