William's brain caught up to the situation as he held his pose. The guy he thought was Matthias was Pali, and wanted to fight him, maybe. Neith seemed like a friendly face, but then someone -- she'd been called Kinnie -- stepped forward to be stern. Then everything broke into bickering, with all parties mentioned arguing about identification. William had his Scout membership card, he thought, and he made a grab for it, ready to launch into a rehearsed introduction.
That was when the blast hit Sophie.
Immediately, two trainers were on her. He knew the thing about "too many chatots in a kitchen." There was nothing William could do for her, except maybe step up and try to be a good leader in her absence. Heck, maybe he could even get a promotion! (Ignoring the fact that he had not really been the quickest draw.)
"We protect the things that can't be replaced! Bibarel, let's go!"
He was finally gonna get in on the team for real! William threw a Pokeball into the smoke that suddenly filled the vicinity.
"Hey, what--"
donk, donk, donk, went the balls of the others, as they released Pokemon in turn.
And then, as soon as the smoke appeared, it had cleared, revealing only an incredible Pokemon. It was a monster that left William too stunned to do anything but shriek. That's what attacked Sophie?!
Bibarel, however took this as a war-cry, and, following suit of the other Pokemon around it, charged screaming into the fray, ready to do battle with the Shiny-Holo-Mega-Charizard-X.
