Matthias arrived at the gym as early as he could. he figured that if he failed really bad there would be time to get back to the Pokemon center, restore his Pokemon and try again.
He gave his name and presented his credentials at the front desk.
"Roark will see you right now, Matthias. I hope you have a good battle plan, Roark has some rock hard defense!"
Matthias was stressed out. His first big chance to prove himself. he hoped he didn't choke.
He walked into the arena and not knowing how he was supposed to address the gym leader, he bowed politely.
Roark laughed, "How lovely to see such a polite young man. But now is time to battle. I hope you have brought your best! Lets go, Geodude!"
Roark sent out one of those strange floating rocks that Matthias had faced at beginner trainers competition. Instinct had done well against that so he sent her out.
"OK Instinct Knock that thing out of the stadium!" Matthias shouted.
Instinct grinned and said "Wartortle!" She then materialised a baseball bat made out of water.
The geodude swooped in for an attack and Instinct swung her bat, knocking the rock Pokemon literally out of the battling field and smacking into the wall.
Roark frowned. "So you are here to play! Larvitar tackle that wartortle into the ground, then..."
Roark didn't get to finish his second command to Larvitar, as a wet *SMACK* sounded the arena, as Instinct knocked a second Pokemon out of the battling area.
"Wartortle!" she cried in glee, waiting for the next opponent. Instinct was loving this.
"Enough of this!" Roark yelled. "Onix, Cranidos, double team that Wartortle! I want it down!"
Cranidos and Onix both came out and charged from two different direction. Matthias didn't know you could command Pokemon at once. Instinct could be in trouble.
Instinct however looked at the two approaching Pokemon and her grin grew bigger. The was a loud wet *Smack* and a crash as teh giant Onix was knocked out of the arena.
The cranidos however got inside Instict's defenses and managed to land a solid headbutt even as it took a glancing blow from the watery baseball bat.
"Instinct return! Bienie finish this!" Matthias said as he called the exhausted Wartortle back and sent out the Bibarel.
"Another water type?" Roark said hanging his head. "Who brings two water types?"
Bienie looked at the Cranidos who limping a little after being hit wait the watery bat. "Bibarel!" he said and shot a blast of water out knocking the Cranidos to the ground.
