And sometimes if the system really wants to screw with you, you won't get anything because they don't deem you as low income enough, so even though you actually do need the money, because you're a Caucasian person from a dual income middle class family, they only give you pocket change if anything. The scholarships I got ran out within the first year.

Ouch that's awful. Here, most of us can get a government loan that covers the full cost of tuition (of course we have to pay for amenities and such). Being a loan, the idea is that we pay it back once we earn a certain amount. I think it's just over 50k per year now. If you're not eligible for a government supported place, generally there are also loans to cover half. And there's different repayment schemes to suit pretty much everyone. We actually have it pretty good here.

We've also got scholarships we can apply for. I actually got a few during my Uni degree, but they all went towards my study abroad overseas. xD

The TAFE course that I just did was funded under the Free TAFE scheme, so I actually didn't need to pay anything (otherwise that would have been an up front cost). I had to pay $175 for amenities, but I was able to get that refunded through my job employment agency. So really I only paid for the $60 coursebook. I'm glad, otherwise I wouldn't have had the funds to do the course this year.

Yeah we have loans here too but quite frankly they're a ***** and a half to deal with.

College tuitions alone are a pain to have to pay for.

    The time is upon us...

If I didn't have the money, I probably would have started with community college. Thankfully my parents paid for undergrad, but I had to cover my own butt for grad school. At least when it's done, it's done, no need to go back for yet another master's, because boy, I'm done with all that stuff.

I think my next few steps would be to get certifications. I've heard those can be tricky, too, but at least they don't seem quite as bad as going back to school.

I've thought about going to grad school but I really really don't want to. I'm going to try and take the GRE before the end of the year though.

My state has a program called OHLAP or Oklahoma’s Promise, which gives you five years of college tuition (or until you get your bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first), so long as your household makes less than $55k a year and can get accepted into the college. The catch is that it only pays tuition, so you need other financial aid for books and stuff. If I remember right, so long as you get your degree, you don’t have to pay it back, which is nice. (Tried looking it up to confirm, but I’m not seeing anything about paying it back.)
