Cheers and good times!
The Diamond Ladies
Pinnacle Chapel
Violet’s Umbreon dashed toward the Latios’s shaped hole, but then stopped and looked up with irritation, realizing the intruder was already long-gone.
“Was that Latios with us the entire time!?” Jarena shouted in shock.
“That confirms it,” Violet muttered, feeling irked about the whole thing as she recalled her Umbreon back to her Pokéball. “They’ve got people on this ship tracking us down and trying to expose us. These are not coincidences.”
“Great, this just keeps getting better and better,” Jarena growled. “I swear, if I find out whose Latios that was, they’re toast.”
Violet gave it more thought, now realizing things were getting a lot more dire than she thought. And the fact the Latios attempted to steal one of their spell books make it clear he was specifically targeting evidence that would ruin their careers, which had to be a target of whoever his trainer was. Unlike the other trainers that they had transformed into Pokémon to silence them, the Latios was a different story, although Violet wasn’t sure exactly how much the Latios could communicate about what he found while in the Pinnacle Chapel. But she was able to discern he was given specific instructions to target them.
Still, even with that knowledge, there was nothing she could use it for. The Latios was long gone, but it was a warning that they had to be ready for anything.
“Forget the Latios for now, let’s focus on getting Cass’s hairbrush and a nugget,” Violet told Jarena as she gathered the books, secured them in the bag, and scooped up Cass again in her arms.
The Diamond Ladies
Central Park
After leaving the Chapel and heading down the stairs, Violet figured by now any operatives that came to help Nathan likely moved on as they had left the room and were no where to be found. But the whole time, she couldn’t help but wonder about how many people were on this ship that were in on trying to expose them. Meanwhile, a whopping six people were now transformed into Pokémon and that number was only rising by the hour. Things for the Diamond Ladies were hanging on the edge and they couldn’t afford any more disastrous slip ups.
The only saving grace was at the moment, it seemed like most people onboard the ship were still unaware of the situation. She believed there might still be a way to get back on track as long as they could get Cassandra transformed back as soon as possible and avoid having to transform any more people, as the number was getting way too high and they still had the rest of today and tomorrow to get through before the ship docked.
When it came to the hairbrush and the nugget they needed, Violet decided to go for the hairbrush first. Nuggets, while rare, were still common enough to the point where Violet felt they would come across one eventually, if not here on the S.S. Wishmaker, then in some town in due time. But they needed the hairbrush most of all as if they suddenly couldn’t get a sample of Cassandra when she was a human, she would be stuck as an Eevee forever.
After heading back into Central Park, Violet and Jarena took it easy and tried not to attract too much attention. Any time they were approached by fans, they simply said hello, gave them a quick autograph or selfie, and kept moving on to avoid any suspicion or imply something was wrong. But the whole time, Violet was taking it as though every one of her moves was being watched.
“Hey, look who it is!” a young male avid fan exclaimed. “Say, where’s Cassandra? Surprised to see you two without her!”
“She’s not feeling too well,” Jarena replied, making a melancholy face. “Guess maybe the waves are getting to her.”
“Gee, that’s too bad,” he replied, suddenly drawing his attention to the Eevee. “Although that is a really adorable Eevee you have there! What’s her name?”
“Cinnamon,” Violet lied, playing it as if the Eevee she was carrying was always a Pokémon. “We need to be on our way, farewell.”
“Buh-bye now!” he waved with a smile.
In a way, Violet could take comfort in knowing there were still plenty of people here that didn’t suspect anything. Besides the Latios, everyone else had been dealt with and were now Pokémon incapable of communicating.
Meanwhile, Jarena was trying to think over the situation. What mattered was making sure these pursuers didn’t get evidence. While they could claim witchcraft all they liked, it meant nothing if they couldn’t provide the evidence to the authorities, and something that sounded so outlandish as magic and witchcraft wouldn’t hold up in court. It was like trying to arrest someone over suspicions of them conspiring with space aliens to take over the country or smuggle illegal steroids for a mermaid. Until whoever was bugging with them could verify the witchcraft books were authentic and validate it by casting spells of their own, all they really had were suspicions and rumors.
Still, the three of them definitely preferred to keep their true natures hidden as much as possible and quiet for as long as they could even with those circumstances.
