Yeah, that's a thing I'm going to change about Team Buckshot and Triple Tousle. Lineless backgrounds, and to STOP wasting so much time on them, because it really adds too much time to getting pages out and on their way (For Team Buckshot, I was expecting to be done with Chapter 1 and almost done with Chapter 2 in 2021 and boy that sure didn't happen). Even just making a background semi-nice is fine, it doesn't need to be exquisite because people are focusing more on the characters and the text to get the story understood anyway. I've looked back and I've noticed lines in the background make it stand out more and that's actually taking away from the focus on the characters. Other comic artists I've seen don't really use hard black lines on backgrounds the way character outlines would have.

It's one of those things I'm going to modify moving forward, but it's not worth it to go back and change previous pages and upload them again. But yeah, it's one of those little lessons learned that wasn't so obvious at first but now I'm seeing where it counts and how a change would help.

Yeah I gotta figure out how to work background better myself honestly. It's been a struggle.

Lineless backgrounds are really nice and can be easier, so Chakra, I'd recommend you experiment with it first if you're interested in trying! I went through a completely lineless phase for about a year and learned a lot. So experimenting with it could help you grow as an artist!

Yeah, I think I'll do that with linework for character art (and stuff like cars or items that characters interact with) while backgrounds are lineless. Would definitely save time and I mostly started doing this with the first few pages of Team Buckshot, but then when they got to the city, I started doing everything with lines when... I think that's overkill.

I hope I can get the next page out this weekend, but we'll see.

I don't exactly know how to make backgrounds without lines xD. Whenever I draw a background it always already comes out with lines. Otherwise it doesn't come out looking defined. Like I can't tell what it is that's drawn.

Honestly, I might need to practice a bit with it myself. Been a little while and while I did it a few times, I might need to adjust things here and there.

I'll see how it goes, but if it really flops, then yeah, I'll see if there's any good recommendations or tutorials for doing simple but nice-looking backgrounds without having too much of a drain on time and energy.

Lineless art isn't completely without lines. That's a bit of a misconception. There's still lines present in the drawing to help define things like hair, etc. It just means you don't draw using lineart. I'd recommend looking up tutorials if you really want to get into it, but for now, since you're still starting out, it's probably better to focus on mastering the basics unless you really want to experiment with something like that. You've improved a lot with your lines and stuff lately so keeping at that isn't a bad idea.

Like I've told Neo before though. For me, tutorials are tough. Don't really help too much. Because often times they expect you to know something else totally you may not. Can't really ask questions or get the guidance needed without being able to ask questions. It's tough....been that way ever since my high school days. School for me...wasn't easy.

Eh, I'd say try some other tutorials if the first ones didn't work out. I know I've run into a few that assumed the person trying to follow it knew of certain things that might not be obvious to everyone. And of course you have those "step 1 start with an oval and step 2 draw the rest of the effing owl" types that are just unintentionally hilarious. xD

Otherwise if you're the type that needs to ask questions and have that kind of interactive guidance, you'd probably need to hire a tutor or attend in-person classes at least until you have some familiarity and then the online tutorials make sense.

Ye like Neo said, try other tutorials. It might take a while but you’ll eventually find some that work. And if not, you’ve got a whole server full of artists willing to assist you!
