PXR WAR Season 1 Discussion

Dates and sections will be announced quite soon actually. It's just a matter of us getting things posted in the proper places and making sure it's seen. A list of WAR sections has been made, and again, will be posted soon. Since we have a lot of PokeStadium members who migrated here in a similar fashion to PE2K members migrating here, I, though I think I can say the same for at least @Shadow Tracker Max, *summons* want to make sure that even they can join without confusion or intimidation from 'ack I dunno what this is I'ma get flattened by all the people who do I can't join ack', even if they're never touched WAR.

This seems like a decent opportunity for a draft to me, in all honesty.

1. PE2K Member's familiarity with each other:

Lets be honest here, WAR can often be a bit of a "Good Ole Boys Club". Since people from PE2K are more familiar with each other and with WAR, they will probably tend to clump together, (unintentionally) excluding the newer transplants from PokeStadium from working with more experienced WAR participants. A draft is an opportunity for these people to be mixed together, across the entire participatory pool of WAR

2. PE2K Members experience with WAR:

Just as how I described how the draft could work as something of a "mixer" for newer and older members, its also an excellent way to divide up the experience among teams from people with several WARs under their belts to the individuals who have never before participated. Honestly, I think to them, a draft may seem a lot less intimidating; they don't have to worry about appealing to complete strangers to join their team, which could arguably be just as intimidating to the more timid members.

This WAR really cant compare to the old WARs. The old boy feel is out the window now. PXR is an awesome community for this reason. While its small its very friend and open. I have friends on all the teams ! They are not joining my team because we only want our own thing. Everyone is looking at this as a chance to have fun and even challenge their friends. So please, dont be worried if you are new or just not someone super active. When I joined my first war I felt nervous and only kind of knew people taking part. I didnt really know the leader, and I only really knew one person on my team. I had a blast pushing myself to try new things and it gave me a chance to meet the people that Ive known for a long time !

Its not that I'm entirely concerned with that, Ryu brought it up. Either way, in your personal experience, you imply that your team choice was arbitrary and it ended up creating lasting friendships. The draft is just as capable of causing that outcome as selecting your team. What I'm saying is that draft is an easier and probably less intimidating way of doing that. If everybody one the team is unfamiliar with each other, nobody feels excluded.

Also, you can't cut out the "Good Ole Boy" factor pretty much ever. Seeing as this isn't the first WAR and there are WAR veterans (this is Aqua's 12th WAR or something? Come on) there is some kind of experiential bias. I'm not certainly not excluded from that bias, being a past WAR Judge/Leader.

No. We are focusing on streamlining the WAR and going back to a rather simple system due to the desire to and necessity of attracting new blood. Not only would a draft be confusing, but in my experience, there is always a fair contingent of butthurt people left in its aftermath.

Although I don't really see how its all that confusing, the butthurtedness of the draft is a fair point. I'll give it a rest I suppose.

I think there is some kind of misunderstanding and im not really sure how it got started. Everyone is welcome to join and they can join any team they like ! They can even start a team. This is about having fun and getting everyone involved nothing more !

That is not always how it works. Also, there is a difference between De Jure Equality and Equality as a concept.

From my point of view, the inequality caused by a draft is institutionalized inequality versus the inequality from the current system which is inequality as a result of someone being a dick. The latter is much easier to regulate than the former. So, certainly, it does create a system of "de jure equality," in that things are supposed to be equal because we say they should be, but creating a form of "true equality" via a draft system seems equally synthetic to me and ultimately has more negative externalities than the current laissez faire system.

I'm trying my best to manufacture the highest possible amount of net happiness, so the right choice seems obvious to me.
