I actually liked the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon spinoff games a lot more than the standard ones (the storyline and the endings will definitely give you the feels). I didn't try Gates to Infinity, though (and I really should). Guess I thought I'd wait for it to get cheaper, but come 3 years later, it's still $35 bucks (and how is Amazon selling it for $51!?).

Gate to Infinity was definitely taken in very harshly for some people. After Explorers of Sky some people thought the next would be just like that or better. Honestly I enjoyed it though just as much! I plan to replay it after I get a New N3DS. The storyline along with that sound track.

Well Rescue one was during a time where I was in high school and kinda tried to hide the fact I liked Pokemon still (yeah as a freshmen I was like that), played and beat the game without the music for the most part...was the biggest mistake. Played the Explorers of Darkness later on with music up and everything and got hooked ever since. Truly a hidden gem among many games/series I'd say.

Sounds like Amazon is trying to rip people off :).

Well some I've noticed are based on region or a store demo copy for collectors. Like PMD Explorers of Sky demo sells on amazon for around $50-70 from what I've seen

I liked the first two series of PMD games for the fact they had really interesting and at times emotional storylines. I found the ending to Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky to be one of the most powerful and emotionally-gripping endings I've ever seen. I'd like to know if Gates to Infinity has the same kind of thing going on with an emotional storyline and a very profound ending (but don't spoil anything, please!).

Not really spoiling anything major, but I think the main difference is: the lack of playable Pokémon, removed content, no gender choices (so it's set to male for you and your partner)...uhhhh. I found it to match up to its predecessors IMO, though many disagree. I think you'd love it if you liked the others and would be worth checking out sometime. This one honestly made me feel like it should not have been rated E at times. Almost can't say much else without spoiling some of the things that just need to be experienced.

Things you may have liked from the previous games are still there, just there are some changes here and there. All honesty worth it and a great addition to the Mystery Dungeon series. Only thing is I wouldn't recommend is the DLC unless you just want it. Doesn't really add much except the few that offer challenges like I tried for the fun of it after still having a bonus $30 from Club Nintendo around then.

Lack of playable Pokemon wouldn't be a big deal. Heck, in the other games, I always went with Pikachu because I couldn't resist. As for "this one honestly made me feel like it should not have been rated E at times" that's... pretty thought-provoking and makes me wonder where they went with it. I'd have to say, Darkness/Time/Sky's premise wasn't peaches and cream either. In that one, heck, the future was even worse than most post-apocalyptic scenarios, so I can't imagine how they raised the ante in this one.

I also wonder, is the music just as good? Some of the tracks in Darkness/Time/Sky were incredible and awesome (although Rescue Team Blue/Red had a few good ones too like Sky Tower). Hidden Land, Temporal Tower, and Sacrifice were amazing tracks, and I don't think anyone could forget "I Don't Want to Say Goodbye" the first time they heard it (and likely cried over it).

I think I'm sold though, I just need to get my 3DS back from my brother's place first. It's just been sitting in a storage box for months.

The music is debatable, but still just as great in the previous games at times. Don't expect too much changes from dungeon to dungeon. (If I remember right there were new composers this game? I'll have to recheck on that). Some dungeons music even sounded very similar sadly. Even with all that with cutscenes music and natural story based music it gets pretty good again. So I wouldn't say it "matches" the Explorers series in terms of music and variety. I think personally it was made that way because of the way the story was developed. Least it's got its upgrades from being on the actual 3ds now. The theme of the game is one of the most powerful pieces in the game.

Oh and one other complaint was the length of the game. It was oddly shorter than the others. That was one of the few cons I had about the game. Post game content is....very, very little...and "very" short as well.

It's got its faults, but it is their first game on the 3ds. While I didn't enjoy the Rescue team game as much as Explorers. Rescue was the first and I think they learned from that. Hopefully we see another in the future that is even better that matches Explorers of Sky in terms of content and experience.

*inserts something competely relevant to the current topic of discussion in order to mask the fact that there was no reading of the posts before this due to the fact that there was an absolute lack of interest as to what peasants had to opine or assert about any issue whatsoever and the purpose of this insert further serves to act as a buffer in which time of the reader is drained away as they struggle to fathom the machinations of the purpose of this post and its ridiculously tautological grandiloquent syntax!*
