Sorry it’s taken so long, ladies and gentlemen, but here it is! Hopefully people still care about this, haha… Anyway, I have to say that these were all great entries! I certainly had a hard time judging this, because each so creative and wonderful in their own ways. If I could, I would give you all first place! But I figure after being absent for so long, I need to fulfill my duty here.

So, drumroll please! …Wait, that was cut from the budget? Okay, then—you, reader! Start snapping your fingers in poetry café fashion while I draw out this out dramatically (in pathetic fashion!)









Honorable Mention—“Nature’s Beauties” by Blaquaza
Even though the deadline was a while back, I’d like to still thank you and give you recognition for your work. The repetition you had at the end of each verse was a nice touch! And I liked how the two lines “they’re sadly weak to many things//like heat and cold and Poison Stings” flowed, and was definitely my favorite part of the poem. I feel like Grass Pokémon are unappreciated now and should get more credit where it’s due, don’t you think? But anyway, thanks for sharing! :D


In Fifth Place—“Loss for Words”, by Judge Joseph Dredd
I loved the humor in this piece, and you have some great imagery going on here! The line with “blank” was a little jarring, and threw off the rhythm you started with at the beginning, but it added to the comedy of the piece. There were a few grammar mistakes here and there—minimal, but still made the message of your poem clear.

In Fourth Place—“Some Trainers Just Want to Watch the World Burn”, by Brettles
You burned my favorite grass starters! How dare you! Haha, kidding aside, this was awesome. I felt like laughing maniacally while reading it. Fire is awesome—‘nuff said. But anyway, taking a look at the poetic size of things: not too bad for one of your first! You’ve definitely got rhythm, rhyming, and the reputation throughout is quite fun! My favorite verse was the second to last, because of all the word choice and summarization (although I believe you meant to say gross, not grouse—since a grouse is a type of bird). I think this would actually make a really cool fan song xD

In Third Place—“I Don’t Like Fairies” by Comatose/The Operator/SLENDERFAIRY
So I’m getting the feeling that you don’t like fairies…
Lolz, man, lolz. This poem was fresh with wit and humor—backed up by a solid flow of rhythm and beats (you’re definitely a musician!). I’m not sure how much more I can say, other than this was a fantastic humor/parody/satire piece! Great work!

In Second Place (TIE)—“The Candle of Hope” by Deathspook and “Spirit World” by Popshakes
Since Popshakes was the only one with multiple entries, I figured it’d be fairer to give this one a tie. First off, I want to spaz over Deathspook’s concrete poem because OMIGOSH FORM. A great example of form in a poem—something that most people wouldn’t think about with poetry. I liked the creativity in this one so I had to rank it high, for sure! But I can’t keep blabbing on about concrete poems; this piece also had great imagry, and included alliteration (my weakness lol). I thought it was also pretty deep—there’s quite a few things you could interpret from this work. Fantastic!
Now on to the “Spirit World”… First off, SPOOKY. I’M SCARED NOW. That aside, I thoroughly enjoyed both of your poems for all the imagery you wrote in them—it appealed to sight, hearing, ect, ect. In this one particularly you really conveyed the fear and horror of the subject, putting your readers on edge themselves. Truly, this poem was terrifying—remind me to never stray too far into the woods ever again, ‘kay?

First Place—“Unappreciated yet Loved” by Popshakes

And here’s our winner! Like I said earlier, I loved the imagery and emotion put into your poems. The one mentioned before made me feel spooked, but this one made me feel refreshed and reflective. It was almost like taking a shower in a rainstorm. This poem made me feel the raindrops on my face (love the description of it being like tears), hear the crashing waves of the ocean, but more importantly made me reflect on what an important element water is to our lives, and how much we take it for granted. The resolution moved me towards showing more gratitude, more care. All in all, a beautiful piece!
