It's a Running gag! It has utterly no purpose aside from making everyone laugh. It's existence is completely unneeded, yet simultaneously inconsequential to the plot as a whole (unless you're going to feature a Weepinbel murdering machine for some reason). Henceforth, you really don't even need to focus on it.

AKA, It's just for fun and it's totally harmless. :P It's like how the main games make fun of Magikarp.

I don't! It's just a running gag ever since I had Markus attack the Bada** Ninja ON HIS SIDE, the one I CONTROLLED, just so I could kill off my Weepinbel-technically, to make room for a DROWZEE in my party. And this was before the Partner concept was created.

After Gold (where Markus got another Weepinbel killed from a falling rock while fighting and capturing an Onix), I just decided "Ah, why not make it the running gag?" And rolled with it.
