The whole PMD: Striders of the Stars thing was something I had to drop because of how messy it was becoming with stats, attacks, dungeon layout, and all that junk. But after seeing how GCEA works, I think a PMD rendition based off of a simplified system like that would be the only way it could be possible (GM-led adventures, simplified battling/leveling system, more focus on RP than stats/mechanics, etc). There would still be some pretty significant differences, though. If anything, I would use GCEA's system as a catalyst, and build and change off of that accordingly to fit a PMD environment. GCEA makes it so much more simplified and this was exactly what PMD: SotS needed (and it just never came to me at the time). Some items, like the orbs, seeds, and berries would appear, but some of the other stuff like Max Elixir, TMs, and stuff like that wouldn't be needed as moves/specific attacks aren't really taken into account. Battling would also have to be changed a lot as player characters would be expected to take on a lot more enemy Pokémon, something more akin to the PMD games, as characters only have themselves and not a whole team of Pokémon to rely on. So yeah, HP and inventory, aside from a few other things, would really be the only thing you need to keep on your stats card.
Dungeon exploring wouldn't feel so randomized and tedious either. There would be landmarks, NPCs and buildings you encounter along the way, specific events that happen, and the Pokémon you rescue or bring to justice bear much more significance to the ongoing, GM-led storyline. Also, there would be only one guild, but the upgrades and additions could be worked toward by everyone. But the same way GCEA is run with GMs, this would need to be handled the same way.
The more I got into GCEA, the more it opened my eyes up that yes, PMD: SotS could have been possible if I implemented something similar in style. And heck, I wouldn't mind being the GM in this case. Even if I didn't directly go on adventures, it would be fun to play a seer/sage Emolga character that hangs out in the guild and has clairvoyance and a special prophetic-like power that initiates the adventures that the player characters go on and the storyline occurrences that the players get to be a part of.
Meh, I just wish I thought of all this earlier. It would feel very much like GCEA's PMD-themed cousin, but it would still be very plausible. Sigh.
