I think the only thing with healers is just being on the watch out for people acting like doofuses. If they pull a Leeroy Jenkins, just let them roast. There's no point in getting the whole party wiped because of one person's idiocy.

Ugh, I hate stupid randoms. In addition to idiot healers and tanks, I hate DPS people who always jump ahead by themselves, die, and then expect the rest of us to back them up. That's not how operating as a team works. Always tempted to just leave them dead there because screw 'em.
Yeah, no kidding. The way that works best is let the tank pull the mobs while everyone stays close by, then let the tank attack first to build initial aggro, followed by the DPS guys, while healer covers tank and only healing when necessary so as not to pull the mobs away. SO many groups I've been in just can't freaking keep it coordinated, so boom, people get wiped. Or you have one DPS dimwit that, like you said, wants to steal the show and look like the tough guy. I did plenty of dungeons in WoW and this was usually how we handled it and it worked pretty well, save for those few crazy exceptions, but generally, it was a solid gameplan.
Trust me, when I played DPS, I did NOT want to attack first. I figured let the tank (who was usually my brother) keep the aggro while I did the backstab rounds and all that other fun stuff. And yes, being able to use voice chat works wonders.
I feel like I should know what you're talking about but I don't.
That's alright, MMOs are quite a gaming beast. It's a world of whiny gamers, obsessive guilds that live only in one particular game world, weird fandoms, and big time sinks. If you never wanted to touch that kind of stuff, it's totally understandable and no one would ever think less of you otherwise.
This is exactly how I do it, too. Though for Tera, not WoW, since I'm cheap and only do free. =P I almost never have any friends to play with and mostly do matching for instances. Hate people who think they can do everything themselves when it's obvious they can't. I remember one moron healer who rushed into the boss room by himself while we were all supposed to be healing up and preparing, and I was just there going, "What the hell are you doing?"
MMOs are fun, but other people make it so infuriating. xD
And Noble, don't give your soul to MMOs!
DPS = damage per second, which refers to the sheer damage-dealing class.
Which ones have you played? =O
Hm… well it's been a while since I played any of them and I only got decently far in two. Plus there's no way I can remember them all since I went through an MMO phase. Hm… lets see… not sure all of these count as MMOs but WoW, Smite, LoL, W101, P101, AQW, AQ, DF, and some others I can't remember.
AND NOW I FEEL STUPID FOR NOT RECOGNIZING DPS!! Had this been… what two years ago? I probably would have recognized it.
The healer is pretty fun to play. Other than my Black Mage, it's the only other class that I have at level 60. It's sometimes fun to just sit back and keep everyone healed or buffed, but then you have a big responsibility like the tank. One screw up and someone could die.
The time is upon us...
