[SUDS] Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Lost in the North

    INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the world of Pokémon!

There are many continents within this world, with the five notable ones being: the Air Continent, the Water Continent, the Grass Continent, the Sand Continent, and the Mist Continent. However, researchers recently discovered the existence of a sixth previously hidden continent, dubbed the Mystery Continent.

Tucked away in the northern reaches of the world, this continent has had a rumored existence for millennia, with many ancient tales of the powerful Pokémon that dwell there. Many have ventured to this continent but seldom return to tell the tales of what they discovered. Since constant and unyielding typhoons surround the island, a combination of luck and skill is required to make it to the island. And then once you are there even more is required to get off the island and safely return to the continents from whence you came.

However, this has not stopped ambitious explorers and researchers from attempting to reach the continent. Rumors of untold riches and power tucked away in the caverns of this continent are enough to draw any Pokémon, whether it be out of confidence or desperation. Though the guilds made it clear that any teams who attempted these missions were on their own. The Mystery Continent is too far out of range from any of the guild’s outposts, meaning escape orbs and badges would not work to return from the continent, and it was too dangerous to continually risk the lives of rescuers in order to save every daredevil that ventured northward.

But this all changed one crisp Autumn morning, when the head of the Bounty Hunter’s guild in the Sand Continent sent out a distress call to the guilds on the other continents. It was an alarm that hadn’t been heard since the days of Dark Matter and had only ever been used four times throughout history.

    This was a Doomsday alarm.

The seer Xatu had rushed to the guild that morning, exhausted and barely able to stand. During the sunrise that morning, he had had a vision, one that once again foresaw the end of the world as they knew it. While he could not decipher what the cause would be, he could pinpoint the origin of that danger: The Mystery Continent.

Now faced with little other options, the guilds of the world created an elite force of teams to send to the Mystery Continent in hopes of stopping whatever danger is set to arise from there. Boarding the S.S. Latios, the elite force waved their goodbyes as they departed from the ports on the Water Continent and ventured northwards towards the Mystery Continent.

The typhoons and storms were worse than anticipated. Even with the S. S. Latios being the finest ship ever made, meant to withstand even the toughest storms, it did not last long against these winds. The entire ship was ripped to shreds and its passengers cast into the ocean, their fates left uncertain.

    CURRENT SITUATION

Though the currents are dangerous, they also proved to be the saviors of many members of the elite four sent to explore the Mystery Continent. Many began to wash ashore on a small beach where they were greeted and tended to by a small village of Pokémon. Though there are still those unaccounted for, many of those on the S. S. Latios seem to have escaped with their lives and only minor injuries.

After explaining the situation to the inhabitants, the elite force members were shocked to find that they already seemed well aware of the oncoming doomsday event and had been for a while. As it turns out, humans had been arriving on the shores of the island for many months now, all speaking of a grave danger that was set to come. The inhabitants had tried to send warning to the other continents, but not much made it past the typhoons these days, so they focused their efforts on supporting the humans, and now the elite force, as they brave the dungeons to find out exactly what is going on.

Your current goals are as follows: Locate the missing members of the Elite Force and reach the end of the Lake of Mysterious Light dungeon.

    YOUR ROLE

You can play one of three characters in this setting: a member of the Elite Force, one of the humans sent for this mission, or an inhabitant of the Mystery Continent.

Members of the Elite Force can be solo members or full on teams. They will have to be members of one of the five guilds meaning they’ll have a specialization outside of basic guild training. They can be: Explorers, Rescuers, Bounty Hunters, Researchers, or Merchants. Typically, members of the Elite Force will be rather strong, as they are veterans of their fields. This means that they’ll know their way around in terms of how to use items and moves, and will also be possibly fully evolved (though not necessarily), but definitely adults. The guilds would not send anyone that is a minor so keep that in mind when making your characters. These characters also can be humans turned Pokémon, but they cannot be humans sent for this specific crisis, and as such will lack any sort of knowledge beyond what the general populace knows.

Humans sent for this mission will be fresh off the boat. They’ll likely be the basic or first stage Pokémon like Torchic or Pikachu, though they can also be single stage Pokémon like Emolga as well. They need to be at least 12 years of age but other than that there’s no real limit on their age. As they are new to this world, they will not have much mastery of their moves, abilities, etc. Though depending on how long they’ve been there, some may be more experienced than others. Humans in this category can have been in the world for a maximum of six months at this point. Important to note, how much your character remembers from their human life is to your discretion. At minimum, they remember absolutely nothing aside from basic things like eating, sleeping, walking, etc., and at maximum, they can retain some important memories from their past life, such as a memory of a loved one or a major life event. Humans will also likely be part of the makeshift guild that has formed on the island, though that is not a requirement. Finally, periodically while they are asleep, all humans from this crisis in particular may receive a dream giving them guidance on their mission. Important to note is that they have been sworn to secrecy about these dreams, as the mysterious voice behind them threatens that if they speak of it, they will lose their ability to access these guiding dreams forever.

Inhabitants of the island have some of the most flexibility. People have been successfully reaching the Mystery Continent for thousands of years, so the small town that most of the inhabitants live in has a very diverse cast ranging from people whose families have been there for generations to new inhabitants that just shipwrecked a few weeks ago. It’s also possible for some of the inhabitants to be humans turned Pokémon as well, but again they wouldn’t be ones summoned for this crisis in particular. This one’s really just open for interpretation so if you have any questions as to what will and won’t fly just ask.

I will be controlling mostly the NPCs and the important figures listed below.

    IMPORTANT FIGURES

Vice Guildmaster Amadeus - Standing at 5’5, Amadeus is the Vice Guildmaster to the Explorer’s Guild on the Water Continent. He is a Gallade capable of mega evolution and has been a member of the guild since before the previous Guildmaster stepped down. As Vice Guildmaster, his main role was to train new recruits and he’s often been equated to a drill sergeant with how unyielding his training regimen is. However, the results speak for themselves, with the Explorer’s Guild known for having some of the strongest and most well trained recruits in the five continents. Notable for his quick thinking and strong psychic abilities, he acts as a relayer between himself and other teams, using his telepathy to pass messages to those within a certain radius.

Vice Guildmaster Silvester - Standing at 2’03, Silvester is the Vice Guildmaster to the Rescuer’s Guild on the Air Continent. He is a Whimsicott originally from the Grass Continent who formed a rescue team with the current Guildmaster of the Rescuer’s Guild. The two are the founders of the Rescuer’s Guild on the Air Continent, having initially established it as a Rescuer’s Outpost of the Explorer’s Guild. Now, many years later, they are the leaders of the bustling institution. Silvester is a bit on up in his years and hasn’t been actively out in the field in a long time, mostly handling the paperwork and other financial duties of the Guild. But when a call came for someone to lead the Rescuers in this expedition, reportedly he volunteered eagerly, a youthful glint in his eye as he took on the role. Silvester mostly plays the role of a strategizer. He’s great at making plans and has successfully negotiated many hostage situations. What he lacks in battling skill he makes up in his ability to direct and adapt to changing situations.

Ace Rank Bounty Hunters Maytal and Eijro - Standing at 3’11 and 3’07 respectively, Maytal and Eijro are currently acting as the de facto leaders of the Bounty Hunter squad due to the Vice Guildmaster being among those still missing from the shipwreck. Maytal is a Seadra originally from the Sea of Wonders whose sharpshooter skills landed her a place in the Bounty Hunter’s Guild on the Sand Continent. Partnered with Eijro the Ariados, the two quickly scaled the ranks and earned themselves the title of Ace Rank. While Mayta and Eijro are not the highest ranked members of the Bounty Hunter’s Guild, they are the highest ranked members currently accounted for, making them the leaders for the time being. The two are both glass cannons, able to dish out a lot of pain quickly, but not able to take much back blow themselves. They also lack really any form of leadership skills, being the only two members of their team, so this has left them underprepared and unqualified for their current situation, though they’re trying to make the best of it as they can.

Guildmaster Tamila - Standing at 3’07, Guildmaster Tamila is a no nonsense type who prefers to act first and ask questions later. As the newest leader of the Researcher’s Guild on the Grass Continent, this Liepard still has the adventurer’s bug in her, so even though most other guilds were sending their Vice Guildmasters, Tamila jumped at the chance to get out of the stuffy office and back into the field. As a researcher, Tamila focused on studying the dungeons themselves and how they act. Her studies ended up providing breakthroughs when it came to detecting patterns on dungeon formation and allowed for quicker navigation to complete missions as a result. Tamila is a fierce battler as well that acts somewhat recklessly. Reflecting her act first ask questions later mentality, she tends to go for the throat when battling and doesn’t yield until someone pulls her off or she deems the battle over.

Vice Guildmaster Vanya - Standing at 2’10, Vanya is the Vice Guildmaster for the Merchant’s Guild on the Mist Continent. Though nothing can be said for sure, many rumors state that the Glaceon is actually a former pirate and avid treasure hunter who only abandoned her ways after meeting the love of her life, the current Guildmaster of the Merchant’s Guild. When asked about it, Vanya usually just sorta laughs it off and winks, seeming to indicate the story is true, but that she can’t verbally confirm it for reasons unknown. But even if it weren’t true, her large number of piercings and gold teeth could give that idea to anybody really. Still, as much as Vanya loves her partner, the call of treasure is said to be like a siren song to her, so she departed eagerly towards the Mystery Continent to discover what untold riches await her. Vanya seeks adventures and thrills and while she might seem cold and cutthroat, a glass of ale is the surest way to her heart. She also notably has a soft spot for children.

Village Leader Raleigh - Standing at 1’0, Raleigh has been the leader of the village on the Mystery Continent for as long as most of the inhabitants can remember. The Shaymin took over for the previous leader many decades ago and has ensured that crop yields were steady enough to sustain all the inhabitants of the island, even amidst the waves of new community members. Raleigh has agreed to lend his support to the Elite Force and the newly arrived humans in whatever ways he can, on the promise that the village inhabitants who do not wish to be involved remain unharmed. Raleigh also acts as the leader of the Island Guild, which serves as a sort of all purpose hub for any teams on the Mystery Continent.

    The Map
The world this story takes place in is for all intents and purposes one in the same with that of Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon and all other PMD games. The events of the games took place in a singular linear timeline with PSMD being the most recent and Rescuers being the oldest. That said, knowledge of these games or the locations in them is not required for this roleplay.

You can find a map of the whole work here. You can also find a small map of the Mystery Continent specifically here. Though I will be working on a more up to date version of the latter map to give a better feel for locations.

    Rules

    • The usual PXR rules and Roleplay Board rules apply.
    • Be kind, courteous, and respectful to your other players. Remember they are not their characters and their character’s decisions do not necessarily reflect their own morals/worldview.
    • Content is meant to be PG-13, no over the top blood and guts.
    • Try to refrain from sexual themes, vulgar language (a few mild obscenities are ok), and other not-nice stuff like racism.
    • No crazy god-modding with your character or their Pokémon. You’ll have somewhat of a free reign within the dungeons themselves but remember that each category of character has their own limitations.
    • Please don’t bunny (control) other people’s characters unless you have their permission. That just means don’t have them do something the person controlling them didn’t have them do.
    • Please use a header at the beginning of each of your posts that has your character’s name (handy if you’re making multiple characters) and their location on the island (this will help others locate you for interactions).
    • You are welcome to have one mythical Pokémon character in any of the categories listed above, but no legendaries.
    • If you have any questions, ask me first. If I say no, that means no. Don’t push it.
