Never too late to discover pokemon, right?

So... I'm nearly 40 but only started to like pokemon in the last few years as my kids have gotten into it.

The first Pokemon game I tried to play was X, but I lost interest in it pretty quickly. I think I maybe completed 2 or 3 gyms?

I then started to discover some of the Pokemon community on YouTube and found that I enjoyed watching playthroughs of speedruns, nuzlockes, and other challenges.

My kids started to get into the anime on streaming. I find most of that pretty annoying, but it's not the worst by far.

We also got Sword, and that's the first game that I've played all the way through. I understand that it isn't the best example of a Pokemon game, but it at least sustained my interest enought to complete it. My kids are all about trying to catch all the Pokemon and do all the DLC. I'm fine with being done with it after one completion.

We also played Legends: Arceus, and I enjoyed that one a whole lot. I actually felt motivated to try to find Alpha versions of many of the Pokemon I liked. My kids loved it to and once of them has even completed the Pokedex.

I have prebought Scarlett and Violet and I'm hoping that my kids will be able to play together in the main campaign. Something that I guess has never been doen before in Pokemon games, but seems kind of obvious?

In any case, I'm actually excited about those games too and I'm all in on Quaxley.

Anyway, I'm looking at getting involved here because I've heard it said by many that Pokemon communities are among the very best on the internets and I'm interested in experiencing that for myself.

Please forgive my general ignorance and lack of interest in high level competitive play. I will try to contribute something interesting or worthwhile in my own ways. Cheers!

Hey there and welcome to PXR! @Keyeynal

Yeah there's a whole lot of communities out there. I've enjoyed it around here myself, but anywhere you go for Pokémon you're libel to find a nice friendly bunch.

True that some Pokémon games are for sure better than others. Especially to each individual out there. As we each enjoy our own different things.

My favorite Pokémon games are the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games. My favorite being the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky.

Same here. I used to be more into competitive play, but it's just too much these days. Especially as I get older.

What's the concept of Mystery Dungeons? I have a feeling that I may enjoy some of the more tangential things more than the main line, like how I enjoyed Arceus more than Sword or X.

Hey there! Cool to see you getting your kids into Pokemon! I'm 40 myself and have been pretty much ensnared by Pokemon ever since I was 17, so you're not alone when it comes to being an older fan. xD

    Great to have you aboard!

Hi @Keleynal, welcome to PXR! I hope you will have lots of fun here. :D

In the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, you play as a Pokemon rather than a Trainer and you explore mysterious dungeons where a floor map is randomly generated. In the dungeons, you fight other Pokemon while obtaining items and finding stairs to the next floor, exiting the dungeon after a fixed number of floors. The main storyline of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games (particularly Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky) is pretty exciting and enjoyable too!

Special thanks to Fate for this cute avatar and this cute banner! :D
Special thanks to AD for this awesome Chikorita GIF! :D

Like Cleobel said, you play as a Pokémon instead of a trainer. Following a more set and deeper story than the normal games. The games are a dungeon crawler (which I know a lot of people don't like), but the Mystery Dungeon games I personally think are some of the best Pokémon has to offer. Story and soundtracks make it really enjoyable.

That does sound cool. It looks like there’s a remaster of some kind on Switch with a demo, so I’ll check it out!
