Interview with Masuda and Ohmori Provides Insight on ORAS

DEMO
ComputerAndVideoGames had an interview with Junichi Masuda and Shigeru Ohmori from GameFreak to talk about Pokemon OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire. Junichi Masuda has been with GameFreak since the beginning and is known for being the Music Director and Director for the main series Pokemon games. Meanwhile, Shigeru Ohmori joined in 2001 to work on game and map design for Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. Now Masuda is the Producer for the games he was first directed while Ohmori is directing the games that he first worked on for Pokemon.

The interview with ComputerAndVideoGames covers a various of topics that range from the new features in ORAS to how fans have affected the development of these beloved remakes. Masuda even mention all the fan demand on Twitter for Ruby and Sapphire remakes as inspiration to start working on these games. Masuda also mention what he would want from a Pokemon Snap if that was to happen.

Below is a snippet from the interview.

Definitely. We’re making new games here, we really wanted them to have a lot of surprises. We didn’t want to just have a straight port with new graphics. Of course, there would still have been a big nostalgia factor for a lot of people if it had just been a straight port, but one of our goals was [to make things different for] people who had played the originals and experienced a lot of things that left a good impression on them.

For example, Ruby and Sapphire was the first time a Pokemon game was on a GBA instead of an 8-bit Game Boy so we wanted to try to recreate that feeling of entering into this new graphical style and how we could make people have that memorable experience again in a new way.
