Pokemon GO January Events
The weather may be cold but Pokemon GO is keeping you warm and active!

We are seeing 2021 starting up soon and Pokemon GO is promising to keep you busy as you get ready for Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto and more! Plus, your weekly Legendary Raid Events and Weekly Spotlights.

January Research Breakthrough

Everybody is going to get lucky during the month of January. That is because those who open their Research Breakthrough Box will get the chance for a Chansey! You may event catch a Shiny Chansey!

This Research Breakthrough will run from Friday, January 1st, 2021 at 1PM to Monday, February 1st, 2021.

January Spotlight Pokemon

Be ready to catch a lot of Pokemon every Tuesday from 6PM to 7PM. Below are the featured Spotlight Pokemon and bonuses.

  • Tuesday, January 5, 2021: Lillipup will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the Stardust for catching Pokémon.
  • Tuesday, January 12, 2021: Drifloon will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the XP for catching Pokémon.
  • Tuesday, January 19, 2021: Shroomish will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the Candy for catching Pokémon.
  • Tuesday, January 26, 2021: Phanpy will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the Candy for transferring Pokémon.

Legendary Raids and Mega Raids

Pokemon GO is adding some Legendary Pokemon to Five Star Raids in January. Though, there have been some Mythical experiences coming as well. This is mostly in part to the Unova Celebration for the countdown to Kanto.

Below are the Pokemon you can expect in Five Star Raids.

  • Ho-Oh will be appearing in raids from Friday, January 1, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. PST (GMT −8) to Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. local time. If you’re lucky, you might encounter a Shiny Ho-Oh!
  • Genesect holding a Burn Drive will be appearing in raids from Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. local time.
  • Heatran will be appearing in raids from Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. local time. If you’re lucky, you might encounter a Shiny Heatran!
  • Kyogre and Groudon will be appearing in raids from Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. local time. If you’re lucky, you might encounter a Shiny Kyogre or Shiny Groudon!
  • A surprise Pokémon will be appearing in raids beginning on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. local time.

We will also be seeing a rotation in Mega Raids happening during mid-January. Below is the timeline for Mega Raids.

  • Mega Charizard Y, Mega Blastoise, and Mega Abomasnow will be appearing in Mega Raids, with Mega Charizard Y becoming even more powerful from Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. through Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 10:00am local time. Mega Blastoise is also a prime pick to use in five-star raids this month, so make sure to stock up on Blastoise Mega Energy!
  • On Tuesday, January 19, 2021, a certain Mega-Evolved Pokémon will make its Pokémon GO debut in Mega Raids! More details will come to light as we get closer to the date. Mega Venusaur and Mega Houndoom will also be appearing in Mega Raids beginning on January 19, with Mega Houndoom being even more powerful from Tuesday, January 26, 2021, through Monday, February 8, 2021.

Countdown to Kanto: Unova Celebration

GO Tour: Kanto is coming and Pokemon GO wants to countdown to it! They are going to be doing this by going from Generation 5 and down! So to start off the countdown, we will have a Unova Celebration Event starting on Tuesday, January 5th 2021 at 10AM Local Time.

Expect to see plenty of Unova Pokemon during this event. If you want more details then click here.

Also, you can expect certain Collections Challenges to be used during certain events. The first of these Collection Challenges will be used during the Unova Celebration Event. Expect more details to come.
