What You Need To Know Before The Pokémon GO Tour: Hoenn Event Begins

pokemon go tour: hoenn
The Global Pokémon GO Tour: Hoenn is this weekend. Are you prepared?

The third GO Tour event is fast approaching. To get ready for the big weekend, there are many things you need to know before you can start catching them all. You have Research to finish and decisions to make before the festivities kick off on Saturday February 25th. Let’s jump right into it.

Pokémon GO Tour: Hoenn

Time & Date
February 25 and 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

Before You Begin
This two-day event is free for the first time. The Kanto and Johto events were paid ticketed events, so this is a nice change. There is a catch however. You need to complete the Special Research: “Primal Rumblings”. This 2 page event will reward you with the event ticket needed, to play Pokémon GO Tour: Hoenn event.

Once you have that out of the way, you need to make a choice. Which version of the event do you want to play – Ruby or Sapphire? The team that completes more field research will unlock an increase in Primal Raids for their mascot.

The other difference lies in an increased chance of encountering additional wild Pokémon. Ruby players will see an increase of: Plusel, Volbeat, Trapinch, Solrock, and Sunny Castform. Sapphire players will see an increase of: Minus, Illumise, Wailmer, Lunatone, and Rainy Castform.

New rare Field Research will help you collect Mega Energy and Ghost-Type Pokémon. Our multi-dimentional friend, Rhi, will also be showing up in brand new Special Research “Chasing Legends”.

New To The Wild

Latias and Latias will be spawning in the wild. Much like the Legendary Beasts from the Johto event, These new Legendary will have an extremely low catch rate and an extremely high flee rate. But before you go throwing Pokéballs at them, stop and take a snapshot first. This will unlock more opportunity to catch them, with a much higher success rate.

There will be rotating habitats throughout the day. For more detail on exact spawns during each hour long rotation, be sure to check out the Pokémon GO Blog. While it hasn’t be confirmed, we can assume based on previous similar events, that there will be Collection Challenges for each habitat. This is a great way to keep track of which Pokémon you have caught and which ones have eluded you so far.

Pikachu is back and has a new costume, are you surprised? They can be Shiny so be sure to check each one you encounter to increase your odds. And speaking of Shiny Pokémon, as is common with these events every Pokémon from the Hoenn region can be Shiny. which means new Shiny Pokémon will be available for the first time. These Pokémon include: Surskit, Gulpin, Torkoal, Cacnea, Tropius, Relicanth, Kecleon, and Unown H.

Masterwork Research

Are you up for a real challenge? Only the finest of Trainers can handle the arduous tasks within the Masterwork Research. This group of challenges can be purchased from the in-game shop. It grants players who complete it, with a Shiny Jirachi. Other rewards include: 9 Rare Candy, 20405 XP, 12700 Stardust, 2 Poffins, 2 Incense, 30 Ultra Balls, 20 Jirachi Candy, 10 Kyogre Candy, 10 Groudon Candy, and 10 Rayquaza Candy.

I hope this has proven helpful in this upcoming event. Be sure to share all your success with us on Twitter, we love seeing it.

See you around, Gensect!
