Podcasters Questionnaire: As The Pokeball Turns #PokePodMonth2023

Podcaters Questionnaire
Welcome back to Pokemon Podcast Month.

July is Pokemon Podcast Month. A month where we get to celebrate our favorite Pokemon podcasts.

Pokemon Podcasts have a vast array of hosts. All of them come from various backgrounds and think in different way. The one thing that they all have in common is that they host their podcast as if they are a friend. A friend where you can come to every episode in hopes to have a conversation with them. One where you can enjoy their company for various minutes as you do something from driving, enjoying a meal or just doing something in your everyday life.

Still, as friends you want to get to know them a bit better. So we have taken the chance to ask some of your favorite Pokemon podcasters various of questions. Some of these questions range from podcasting in general to why they simply love Pokemon. Overall, we want to give you a chance to get closer to the friends that you love to listen and talk to every episode.

Today we have the following answering our Pokemon Podcast questionnaire:
David Hernandez from As The Pokeball Turns.

What drew you to the Pokemon franchise?

As the Pokeball TurnsDavid Hernandez: I’ve always been fascinated by animals and exploration. Pokemon was a unique balance of both where I can pick my team of Pokemon and travel within the game and imagine the adventures within my head. In spite of the graphic limitations, I’d always imagine anime style battles against the NPCs.

What inspired you to podcast?

As the Pokeball TurnsDavid Hernandez: I’ve always wanted to do something creative, but was unable to find an outlet. My editing skills with Youtube was too far behind to feel that I could develop quality content expected by the audience there. Podcasting allowed me to have to only deal with sound and addressed my concerns being in front of a camera.

What is your thought process when it comes to picking music for your podcast?

As the Pokeball TurnsDavid Hernandez: When it came to picking out my opening music, I wanted to bring the idea of exploring different worlds. My podcast is about people and each person is their own world, similar to where each game is its own universe.

What keeps you going when it comes to podcasting and Pokemon?

As the Pokeball TurnsDavid Hernandez: I love creating the content, listening to people’s stories, and I enjoy pushing what the podcast can evolve into over time. I’m just a huge fan of Pokemon and the many ways you can experience the franchise and the different ways people have developed to express their love for the franchise.

When you record your podcast, who do you wish to reach with it?

As the Pokeball TurnsDavid Hernandez: Whenever I first developed the podcast, I always kept the idea of 3-4 people sitting at a table talking about their story with Pokemon GO. My hope is the same people who would sit at the table and talk about Pokemon GO would also be the same ones who would enjoy listening to my podcast.

What is the hardest part when it comes to podcasting?

As the Pokeball TurnsDavid Hernandez: Finding your audience, especially within the Pokemon sphere. Most people are into visual content and audio only content can be off-setting, especially since many people don’t regularly listen to podcasts. If you ask any Pokemon fan to name their top 5 content creators, you’ll be lucky if a podcast is mentioned on any list.

That’s the challenge any Pokemon podcast will face and has to learn how to address if they want to build an audience. That’s what makes those messages from fans feels so much more meaningful since we don’t have feedback like a Youtube comment section and are also super niche within the Pokemon sphere.

What has been the best Podcast moment you have had?

As the Pokeball TurnsDavid Hernandez: It would have to be when I was able to trick ShadowPrime34 into doing the Pokerap announcer voice and I started singing a verse from the original Pokerap. That was a moment and I’m glad it worked out.

Huge thank you to David Hernandez for taking the time to answer these questions.

We hope you enjoy this moment with your friend if you are a listener of this podcast. If you are not then how about you take a chance and make a new friend by listening to As The Pokeball Turns.

Make sure to give them a review on Apple Podcasts or your favorite podcatcher! Don’t touch that Totodile! See you all next time!
