Pokémon: A Different Kind of Super Bowl Champion

Train ON
Last week’s Super Bowl 50 was won by Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos, but as with every year, another battle entirely goes on between breaks in the action.

This year, advertisers looking for a 30-second spot during the Super Bowl had to pay a cool $5 million. While gearing up for their upcoming 20th anniversary, Pokémon did just that, rolling out an ad to kick off the celebration.

As of VentureBeat‘s February 8th article, the ad had garnered 18 million hits on YouTube. This compares to 12 million for a Hyundai ad featuring comedy superstar Kevin Hart.

The ad, which is quoted as something of a “Victory Lap” for our favorite franchise, uses the new tagline “Train On”, and is meant to have an uplifting effect on its fans, while keeping the franchise in the back of people’s minds ahead of the release of Pokémon Go for mobile devices.
