Pokémon Direct Release Information

The latest Pokémon Direct has just finished and here’s the latest Pokémon announcement news that you need to know in case you missed it!

It was an early Tuesday morning for many across the world as thousands tuned in for the latest Pokémon Direct. Never before have I witnessed so much hype as anticipation rose for the eight minute announcement. So sitting back in my Discord chat with several others, I watched as more than 116,000 people tuned in on YouTube and 30,000 on Twitch.  Then the excitement began! Be warned! The screenshots and videos have been included so there will be spoilers.

The first bit of news that we received was Pokkén Tournament DX which is exclusive for the Switch. The trailer was shown displaying a variety of the game’s new characters and capabilities. The game now features two players local multiplayer using the Switch’s two JoyCons. It also allows for local wireless between two Switch. Pokkén Tournament DX now features three types of matches: Ranked, Friendly, and Group. Players can also enjoy 3 vs. 3 matches where three characters are selected by each team. There will also be daily challenges, the ability to rewatch battles, and all the characters and supports will be available right from the start of the game.

Most exciting of all is that the original characters from the Wii U version will be included in Pokkén Tournament DX along side with Darkrai, Empoleon, Croagunk, Scizor, and Decidueye. Litten and Popplio also make their debut as support characters. The game is due for release September 22, 2017.

In addition, Pokkén Tournament DX will be featured at the Nintendo Treehouse at E3 this year with the opportunity for people to play. There will also be an invitational tournament on June 14, at 10:30 AM PT. However, the best bit of news came unexpectedly at the end of the trailer for Pokkén Tournament DX.

During the trailer, the man we follow gives his nephews presents which were revealed to be Pokémon UltraSun and UltraMoon. Supposedly these games will take place in an alternate storyline than that of Sun and Moon. During the trailer we see new outfits for the player character, what appears to be a Pikachu sanctuary, hints of new Z-Moves, and new forms for Solgaleo and Lunala. These new forms have Solgaleo and Lunala wearing what looks like the legendary Pokémon Necrozma as armor! The game will be 3DS exclusive and will be released November 17, 2017

Finally, at the end of the Pokémon Direct came one more small piece of news. Releasing on September 22, the same day as Pokkén Tournament, the classic games Pokémon Gold and Silver will be available for the Virtual Console. The games will be compatible with Pokébank as well.
