Changes at Pokemon Nationals This Year

Recently Play! Pokemon has announced changes that will take place at this year’s Pokemon Nationals Competition. These announcements affects how the Top Cut will be handle concerning the Trading Card Game competition and Championship Points for the World Tournament.

The first announcement is that the Top Cut rounds will be single-elimination rounds where the competitors must win two-out-of-three matches in order to advance to the next round. Each round will be seventy-five minutes long. In previous tournaments, these rounds only lasted an hour. The change was most likely to avoid having winners being determine due to running out of time.

The finals for each division will then be played on Sunday in order to determine the National Champion for their respective division.

The second announcement is that there will be an additional chance for people to qualify for the Worlds Competition. Play! Pokemon will host a Last Chance for Champion Points tournament where the top sixteen will be award Champion Points depending on their rank in the tournament. This will be a single elimination tournament and the top sixteen will be seventy-five minute best-out-of-three matche rounds.

In order to compete in Worlds, players must earn a certain amount of Championship Points during the competitive year. The Last Chance for Champion Points tournament will be good for those who are close to receiving an invitation to Worlds but are lacking points.
