Pokemon TCG Flashbacks to 1996! Evolutions Release!

Retro Look Site Cool
Pokemon is able to release a new set with an old look and to celebrate they are partying like 1996!

The Pokemon TCG has been around for 20 years and have produced thousands of cards. In honor of this 20 year milestone, the Pokemon TCG will release Evolutions on November 2nd. This set is a spiritual reprint of the original Base Set with each card in the set having a classic look with the card templates and art from the first set. Even the EX Pokemon and Trainers share the same retro look! Some of the old Pokemon may have different attacks and HP from their Base Set counterparts but it is only to help them stand up to a new meta.

The Pokemon TCG has also decided to do a throwback with their website by making it look as if it was 1996! You can see all kinds of weird word art and animations all over the site. Read below to see what Pokemon has to say about their new retro look!

In a digital flashback to the 1990s, The Pokémon Company International has overhauled the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) website today with a whimsical homage to the decade. As part of the brand’s 20-year celebration, the ’90s-inspired site launches today to herald the release of the Pokémon TCG: XY—Evolutions expansion. The cards in this expansion are updated versions of the very first Pokémon cards that launched in the ’90s.

“The Pokémon brand launched in the ’90s with the introduction of the first video games and quickly became a global sensation,” said J.C. Smith, director of consumer marketing at The Pokémon Company International. “As we celebrate our 20th year and introduce the Pokémon TCG: XY—Evolutions expansion, this promotional website was an extremely fun project to develop for our fans. They’ll love learning about the Trading Card Game while exploring web design from the decade in which the cards were introduced.”

The Pokémon TCG: XY—Evolutions expansion restores the very first Pokémon trading cards to glory, with classic cards reinvented for a new generation of Trainers. XY—Evolutions includes more than 100 cards; 12 new Pokémon-EX, including five Mega Evolution Pokémon; and four new Pokémon BREAK. Booster packs and two theme decks—Pikachu Power and Mewtwo Mayhem—are available beginning today at participating US and Canadian Toys“R”Us stores, hobby shops, and participating GameStop locations, and will be at other retailers nationwide by November 2, 2016.
