Shiny Meltan Returns To Pokémon GO for TCG!

Pokemon GO x Pokemon TCG Event
The TCG Crossover Event everyone has been waiting for, is finally here!

With the new Pokemon TCG: Pokemon GO expansion coming soon, there is no better way to get hyped. Take to the streets to find a new Costumed Pikachu ,and making it’s Pokemon GO debut…Wimpod. It will take 400 candy to Evolve Wimpod into Golisopod, so be sure to double up your catch candy whenever you can.

In addition to this, Shiny Meltan is being re-released for a limited time. If you haven’t gotten one yet, this will be your best chance. I’ll even put a guide down below so you can maximize your chances to get that coveted Shiny Pokémon.

Event Details

Time and Date
June 16, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. to June 30, 2022, at 8:00 p.m. local time.

During this time there will be six Collection Challenges of varying difficulties. Just like the TCG, some Pokémon will be harder to find. You’ll need to work hard to complete them all. When you do, you’ll receive rewards of XP, a Lure Module, and an Incubator. You’ll also be able to encounter Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, and Meltan!

Beginning on June 23, 2022, three more Collection Challenges will be available to give you more chances to encounter Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise. These challenges are a great way to make catching wild Pokémon just a little more exciting, and I for one, am here for these.

The Return Of Shiny Meltan

The TCG Crossover Event marks the third time Shiny Meltan has been available. The first was for a month in February 2019, and again for two weeks during the fifth anniversary of Pokémon GO in July of 2021. This is the rare instance where a Shiny Pokémon is turned off after an event ends.

The trick to obtaining Meltan is simple.

  1. Link your Pokémon GO account to either Pokémon Let’s GO: Pikachu/Eevee or to Pokémon HOME.
  2. Transfer a Pokémon to either of those games and you will receive a Mystery Box.

This box works like an Incense, spawning one Meltan every few minutes. You are able to open this box every three days, but you must transfer a Pokémon to Let’s GO or HOME each time, in order to get a new box. If you are lucky, one or more of those Meltan could be Shiny.

Twitter user KahunaPat has come out with a great little guide to help remind players when the best days are to open a Mystery Box in order to maximize your chances of obtaining a Shiny Meltan.

  • June 13-15: DO NOT OPEN MELTAN BOX!
  • June 16 – Box 1 (after 10am local)
  • June 19 – Box 2
  • June 22 – Box 3
  • June 25 – Box 4
  • June 28 – Box 5

This leaves you with two days of wiggle room incase you forget to open a box. Five boxes of Meltan is lots of opportunity to not only find a Shiny, but also acquire lots of Candy to Evolve a Meltan into Melmetal.

Are you excited for the return of Shiny Meltan? Or are you going to be hunting Wimpod like there’s no tomorrow? Let us know on Twitter.

See you around, Genesect!
