Weekly Pokemon Opinions!

This week’s post includes a couple Fossilmon, confused rating and a reference to old Saturday Night Live skits. You can voice your opinion by posting your thoughts here,

#411 Bastiodon

My rating: 9 Okay, most of these points are based off nostalgia, since Pearl was my first game and the Shieldon/Bastiodon were my favorite Pokemon. I don’t even know why. I guess I just thought they looked cool. But it’s not all nostalgia, they’re fossil Pokemon after all, and fossil Pokemon are always some of my favorites. It’s a fun to use lead in NU, and even in OU if you’re Sciz. Overall, I like it mostly for nostalgia, but it still has some other strong points. ~The-Hydra

My rating: 6.5 I like Bastiodon. I’m not really crazy for fossil Pokemon (except for Aurorus and Tyrantrum lines), but Bastiodon is nice! I think Gen IV fossils were a vast improvement from Gens I & III fossils, too.~Corey

9/10 It’s a fossil with a castle-facade tower shield for a face! What’s not to like? It’s 4x weakness to Fighting and Ground, you say? Picky.

I really love Bastiodon’s design. It’s one of my top favorite fossils, though I haven’t used one in game yet. I’m tempted to run a fossil team in either OR or AS and Bastiodon will definitely have a spot. ~Braddock

I love fossils and despite triceratops being my fave dino ever, I just never felt that attached to Shieldon/Bastiodon :(

Bastiodon’s design is cool but its typing combines two of my least favourite types and I found it difficult to use as I prefer fast Pokemon. I did really like the Gen IV fossils over Gen III though! I’ll give it a 7.5. ~Pokemon Trainer Sarah

#680 Doublade

My rating: 6? Maybe? I honestly have tried to have a consistent opinion about Doublade, but I really can’t. It’s kind of cool. It’s also somewhat lame. It’s got kind of an unoriginal design, but also original. I don’t even know. I even tried using one, but I’m still not sure. The one thing that’s certain is that it’s very strange. ~The-Hydra

9/10. I love the whole line. A haunted, life-draining sword? Awesome! I actually prefer Doublade’s design over its other two relatives. I like its colors and animations. The only thing that bothers me is that I can’t find a pronunciation of Doublade that doesn’t sound dumb. If it’s pronounced like a true portmanteau of double and blade, it sounds like that old SNL sketch. Now I’m imagining a bunch of overweight guys sitting around talking about “Da Blade!” I know I’m showing my age, shut up! :P ~Braddock

XD Took me a min to get it then I remembered “Da Bears.” :P RIP Good SNL. ;_; Anyway! On topic, I’d give it an 8. I really love this line, and unlike a lot of people I have no problem with Pokemon based on inanimate objects. The only issue I have is I don’t understand how it evolves from one sword, to two swords, to a sword & shield. O_o But whatever, it’s still cool, and Doublade probably has the best design out of the three.~Shroomish

My rating: 7 I like Doublade and family, they’re a really cool evolution line! Along with Klefki, I think Aegislash is one of my favorite inanimate object Pokemon. ~Corey

8.5/10 Love it and its line so much. Unique typing and samurai sword design = best inanimate object pokemon ever ~Ghostwriter

Average Rating: 7.7

#206 Dunsparce

My rating: 8.5 You gotta love Dunsparce, because it’s hard to. He’s the underdog of Pokemon. Maybe not even that. He’s the under-underdog. He’s strange. He doesn’t quite fit into any type very well. And his looks…it’s not hard to see why he’s not exactly adored. However, in terms of battling, he can be a bit of a pain, with his Glare/Headbutt/Serene grace combo. But it’s not that wonderful, so it doesn’t help him escape his…Dunsparce-osity. Overall, this may just be my opinion, but Dunsparce is really the butt of the Pokemon world, and I respect him for accepting that position gracefully. (pun totally intended) ~The-Hydra

My rating: 7 I like Dunsparce. It’s useless, sure, but I think it’s kind of cool. Gates to Infinity made me like it even more, so it gets points for that. :v ~Corey

Rating: 7/10 It’s really underrated and I wish it would get more love. Like an evolution. It’s Serene Grace works like a Togekiss in its tier.~Ghostwriter

I don’t much care for Dunsparce, but I don’t dislike them. 4 from me. xD No offense buddies. ~Suicune’s Fire

He gets a 3 from me. He’s just so underwhelming. The only other Pokemon I can think of that’s been neglected this much is Stunfisk, but the later is still new-ish. Dunsparce has been around since gen 2 and STILL hasn’t gotten any love from GameFreak. No evolution, no mega, nothing to make it better. And to me he always just looked like something that was meant to evolve. The undeveloped wings, no legs, etc. just make him look like some kind of hybrid-pupa. This clearly doesn’t appear to be a fully grown creature that can survive on its own in the wild.  So /shrug. As I’ve said before, I don’t “hate” any Pokemon. But there are a few I definitely don’t like. This is one of them for obvious reasons. :P ~Shroomish

3/10 I don’t know how to react to it. If it gets a good (emphasis there) evolution, then it’s cool! ~VoltChen Magneton

I kind of wish they did more with him. I mean he’s screamin’ for some upgrades. He needs to evolve and what not, maybe add the Dragon typing and give him some bad-booty moves. He needs to upgrade from Normal to something awesome like Ground/Dragon, Bug/Dragon, Bug/Ground, Fairy/Bug, Fairy/Ground. However I do admit it having the Hidden Ability Rattled would be kind of contradictory if it would gain a Bug typing. I really think if they actually gave Gen 2 a chance, those pokemon would be phenomenal. Anyway, it’s getting a 7.3/10 from me. ~Commander Shepard

I’ve never used Dunsparce before. I think an evolution would serve it well. It will probably get a Mega instead though. It is pretty cute but its eyes always bothered me a little. 4/10 ~Pokemon Trainer Sarah

Average Rating: 5.5

#356 Dusclops

My rating: 7 Dusclops is one of those few Pokemon I think is actually pretty eerie, but that just makes it cooler. I’ve never really used one in-game, but my brother ran one with the eviolite back in Black/White, and he kept beating me with it until I finally got a Hydraigon. I still use it as a staller sometimes on showdown, and it’s not a bad choice for a NFE. With his great movepool, going great with the Eviolite, and unblinking red eye that snatches your wisps up, he’s a solid Pokemon. ~The Hydra

My rating: 1 There are very few Pokemon that I actually despise, but Dusclops is one of them. It’s absolutely hideous. The only reason I’d ever touch one is to get a Dusknoir. ~Corey

Dusclops. My rating: 6 I prefer its pre-evolution Dusclops, as in my opinion, it actually looks more sinister. Dusclops looks kinda silly. It’s still decent, though. ~Arrow-Jolteon

Average Rating: 4.7

Well, there you have it. Bastiodon slayed this week’s ratings.  Poor Dusclops got a 1 rating from Corey. A ONE!! But I do have to agree, he’s just weird. But then, he is a ghost type Pokemon, so maybe he’s supposed to be weird? Be sure to check back soon for another helping of ratings.
