As Neith was lead by an official to her first match, her heat raced. This was her first real official pokemon battle. This was what she’d spent preparing for, Not random thugs, but other trainers who followed the rules and fought with honour.

After the trainers introduced themselves, Neith’s opponent sent out his pokemon. Neith inwardly sighed with relief as she recognised an Oshawott. Her mother had seen many of these back in Unova, and Neith had heard a lot about them.

“Okay, Esc, it’s up to you again.” Neith sent out the Turtwig. “Oshawott are vulnerable without their scalchop. Try and knock it away."

Escutcheon nodded and feinted a few times, before lunging towards the Oshawott’s hand. But his opponent’s reflexes were faster than anticipated, and instead of disarming the Oshawott, Escutcheon was hit by the full force of a newly formed blade of water.

Neith cried out as the Turtwig collapsed to the floor. Neith returned Esc to his pokeball, then considered her options. Fennel is weak to water, and she’d rather not risk her confidence by fainting again so soon after the lake incident. So that left only one option…

I haven’t gotten to know you yet, but you’re my best chance.

Neith flung the pokeball into the air, where it released the new caught Starly. The bird pokemon fluttered there for a few moments, glaring at Neith, until a jet of water grazed it’s wingtips.

Turning to it’s attacker with murder in it’s eyes, it swooped at the Oshawott, not waiting for any kind of command from it’s trainer. “Stop, wait, don’t get too close! It’s stronger at close range!” Neith cried, but the Starly ignored her, viciously pecking at the Oshawott. It was relentless in it’s assault, until finally the opponent got in a lucky hit with Razor Shell, felling the bird in one swipe.

Okay, maybe that wasn’t such a good idea.

One left. Neith called over Fennel from where she watched from a few feet behind her. “Binary can’t fight, so you’re the only one left. I promise I’ll do a better job than at the lake this time. Will you help me?” The Fennekin nodded, and, shaking slightly, slowly walked into the arena.

That Oshawott must be on it’s last legs by now. From the looks of it, all I need is one good hit. Assuming he doesn’t have any more pokemon, in which case we’re screwed.

“Okay, use Ember from a distance. Keep it away from you.”
Rapid fire bursts of flame shot from the Fennekin, but the opposing Oshawott dodged and deflected them with ease.
Come on Neith, think! What did Sara say about Oshawotts? They’re mainly close fighters, and rely on the Scalchops, using them like a sword… That’s it!
“Fennel, wait for my signal, then roll around behind him.”
Fennel ceased her attacks, allowing her opponent to close in. Wait for it, wait for it… “Now!”
The Oshawott swung it’s watery sword horizontally at Fennel, but the Fennekin ducked and rolled under it, slashing at the Oshawott’s exposed back with her claws. Already weakened from the prior battles, the Oshawott finally succumbed to his injuries and fell to the ground, scalchop dropping from his hand.

"We got some great footage in that last battle. For this one I think were going to need to pull out all the stops." He said now adjusting the camera for the new battle.

With that the pokemon was defeated. Renny held the shot until the trainer had called back there pokemon then faded out.
"Thats a wrap." He said walking over the tired Popplio

"Great moves out there. We should practice more tonight if you were up for it." He smiled

He paused looking around. All this battling had kept him busy. For a moment he felt like this was slowing him down but held off for now.
"patience" He said to himself

Matthias introduced himself to the Hiker who introduced himself as Joseph.

They shook hands and then started the battle.

Instinct went first, still full of confidence from the first fight. The enemy geodude picked up a huge load of roack and started throwing them. Instinct has to run around to dodge them.

"Shield yourself, Instinct!" Matthias called out.

The squirtle nodded and blew a large bubble which she grabbed in one hand. She used it as a shield to bounce the rocks that Geodude was throwing at her, back onto the ground harmlessly.

"Good shield, Instinct. But how about we try some offence!"

"Squirtle!" said instinct as she shot a stream of water into her other hand. Through some strange water manipulation power she molded the water into a watery sword.

Spoiler:

She charged the Geodude with a ferocious roar and scored some impressive hits before the sheer size difference allowed the Geodude to knock her to the ground.

The tired Geodude was easily taken out by an uppercut from Kid.

The final Battler approached, it was a rancher, he didn't say anything as he chewed on a piece of hay and sent out his Graveler.

"Instinct, don't let that thing anywhere near you. Shoot it from a distance!"

"Squirtle! Squirt!" said instinct as she hit Graveler with a powerful water gun attack. The graveler tried to withstand the watery blast, but by the time that the squirtle was exhausted from her huge water gun effort, the graveler was unsteady on its feet.

"Finish it off Kid! Show them one of your fancy fighting moves" Matthias called out.

The chimchar scurried forwrd and executed a simple leg sweep which was enough to finish off the soaked Graveler.
