The Best of 2020: Pokemon Podcasts

Best of Best 2020 Podcasts
Time to end 2020 with the best of Pokemon podcasts!

Let’s all admit it. 2020 was a pretty horrible year. All those plans that we had? trashed! Yet, we all stuck together and tried her best to keep moving forward. That is all we can do and guess what. You all made it!

One thing that stayed consistent was all the amazing Pokemon podcasts that we could listen to in 2020. They certainly felt it but when there was a moment, we put on our headphones and listen to them. May it be while working at home or simply just cleaning the house. We head plenty of amazing Pokemon Podcasts to listen to. From the people reporting Pokemon news to amazing discussions. If we wanted to get away from 2020 for a good hour and half then there were plenty of Pokemon Tabletop podcasts to do that with. The podcasts radio waves were the limit!

We reached out to several Pokemon podcasters in the last week and asked them for their favorite and top podcast episode for 2020. They even provided some reasons why. So go ahead and take a seat as we take a look at some amazing Pokemon podcasts episodes that came out in 2020.

Talk Podcasts

After DarkrainAfter Darkrai: The Litteny of Lauren Babic [EXPLICIT]– We welcomed musical superstar Lauren Babic to our NSFW madness! Knock it off the podbucket list!
Pokemon Variety HourPokemon Variety Hour: Rating all the Pokemon: Gen 6– Our series of rating all the Pokemon by generation was probably one of the biggest Highlights of 2020. This is our favorite of those episodes, filled with fun banter and good times.
Pay Day PodcaastPay Day: Durgens and Kermurdering – MIKEY: This was the first episode that Anna was on. Though, you can really tell that Matt and Tom really had great synergy with her. It was maybe the start of what would make a great podcasting trio.

Specialty Podcasts

Science of PokemonThe Science of Pokemon: Tundras Of Fun – This year, we kind of split up in where we all live and it was nice to get together and gush over DLC.
I Chews YouI Chews You: Mareep- There are milestones in life. Moments that you can’t forget, times that come and shape the experience you on earth can have, and hitting a big number with your podcast is certainly one of them. Episode Fifty was special for the I Chews You Crew. It was our longest, biggest and most rigorous episode at the time, only outdone by our Season 3 Finale.

Featuring a multitude of new bits (like Ben’s trivia which also makes an appearance in Ep. 90), while indulging in the oddest way to cook the humble Mareep. It’s a great introduction to the show for newbies but also a fun celebration for day-one fans.

Luke Loves PokemonLuke Loves Pokemon: Stantler– Surprisingly, my personal favorite when I look back at the year is Stantler. I love doing this podcast the most when I research a Pokemon I wasn’t too interested in and it actually turns out to be fascinating and cool in a way I had no idea about.
Bracket RacketBracket Racket: Ghost Types– MIKEY: This was a fun episode to listen to. You got to learn a bit more about Team Racket’s personal life as they had their friend on to help rank Ghost types. Also, some…Interesting Halloween costume ideas.
EXP ShareEXP. Share: Pallet Town, Viridian Forest, Pewter City, & Boulder Badge [EXPLICIT]– The EXP. Share hosts play through every Pokémon game, including remakes. So when they returned to Kanto in FireRed/LeafGreen, they decided to switch it up: a Nuzlocke Run with the base as well as their own rules. It’s one wild ride.

Anime Podcasts

PokePresPoke Press: Disputed Pokemon Songs– Honestly, I think our best episode this year is the “Disputed Pokemon Songs” episode we put out last month. We did a fair bit of research (I made time to finally watch the Whoopi Goldber movie “The Associate”) on a variety of songs and combined that with our personal experiences, resulting in a really insightful episode.

If you’re hoping for some sort of guilty/innocent debate, this isn’t for you, but I recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about these songs.

Battling Podcasts

Pokemon Champions PodcastPokemon Champions Podcast: Dallas Regional (TCG Top 8, VGC Top 16)--This episode is not only our most popular episode in this year, but of all time.

And that’s for good reason too, not only does it feature one of the biggest VGC events in history but we also get to see some results from Expanded on the TCG side, where events are few and far between.”

TCG Podcasts

Tag TeamTag Team: A Chip off the Old Block- It’s always fantastic having interesting guests on the podcast because they can give a unique perspective on the Pokemon community. Chip, as a PTCG creator and official Pokemon commentator does just that as we discuss questions related to his various Pokemon pursuits.
Pittsburgh Pokemon PodcastPittsburgh Pokemon Podcast: Draw after Draw- For our episode it is episode 9. Jake and I (Nick), now are starting to really mesh together here in our preparation. We are starting to put together the rest of the Team, Charlie who does whimsey watch, Zack our Professor, and reach out more to the community as a whole for support and feedback.

Pokemon GO Podcasts

GoCastGoCast: Two Years In The Making- Episode 100 was a really big highlight in 2020 for us. 2020 has been a real test for everyone in many different ways and this episode gave us a little respite to celebrate Pokémon, the podcast, our community, and how this Pokémon GO has positively affected our lives! We couldn’t think of a more feel-good episode.
PkmnMstrzPkmnMstrz: News at a Magcargo’s Pace– This was our last recording before our lives changed. With COVID and all the restrictions arounds us we had this episode recorded 4 days before we rushed to the hospital to bring our PokéBean into this world.

The episode released over a month later, but it’s easily an episode to look back on and remember GO Fest, and everything that changed in our lives afterwards. A new beginning for us as a family, and a podcast.

Tabletop Podcasts

Mystery Dungeons and DarkraisMystery Dungeons and Darkrais: Mystery Dungeons & Moo Moo Milk – ur best / favourite for some tense story beats, our first boss battle, great music and our first evolution! It also sets the tone for the episodes to come.
Critical DittoPostcards from Pearl: Family Meeting – I think we’re gonna go with episode 50 for our feature! It comes on the heels of some big events, but is a great jumping in point to start listening to current episodes of the show! Meeting some key figures for moving forward, setting the stage for events to come, not to mention some very fun poké-shenanigans!
Not a ScratchNot a Scratch: Oh?- As the DM of Not A Scratch, it’s really hard to pick what our best episode was! Of the released episodes, I think that Arc 1 Ep 5 might be one of the best!

This episode, titled “Oh?” introduces a character that ends up playing a major role on the show in Snow the Spheal. It also emphasize the type of show that we are: improv adventures through a world unlike any you’ve ever seen before!

Pokemon World TourPokemon World Tour United: Road To The Indigo Plateau! Victory Is At Hand! – “We did way fewer episodes this year than normal because of *waves vaguely at 2020* but my favorite United episode was probably episode 78. We got all our past gym leader guests to record a little thing and it was really nice hearing everyone again. Plus the twist at the end really landed”
PokeMomsPokeMoms: Lil’ Gyarados Spring Festival and River Round-Up: Pt G – For my pick for Favorite Episode of 2020, I pick 15 – Lil’ Gyarados Spring Festival and River Round-Up: Pt G. At the end of last episode, a metaphorical time bomb was set as a Magikarp was accidentally(?) dosed with a Rare Candy in the middle of a town festival.

This episode deals with Twin Peaks style small town weirdness and drama while the audience waits for Chekhov’s Gun to fire. My personal favorite moment is Cici and Jeanette having a heated whispered discussion about death cults while respected town elder Cappy sings the Coalgate Anthem.

2's Company2’s Company: Henry’s Story: Lights Out-– I would say that henry’s story episode 2_6 Lights out would probably be our best episode at the momen. It’s got all the great things from intense battles to heartfelt moments, and even little bit of goofiness in the mix. It also shows a really important character development point for our protagonist Henry.
Reckless RollersReckless Rollers: The Audacity of this B**ch pt 2 (Burnt Tower pt.2)-– The fight against the Spiritomb was awesome and ended in an unexpected way, which is fitting for us.
Critical HitmonleeCritical Hit-Monlee: Melody’s Close Call.-– The reason why is because it shows how scary the wild actual is within the campaign. In addition, it also shows a glimpse into what the evil organization is doing to Pokémon within Oletta.

The year of 2020 is one that many people would love to forget. Though let us not forget about these amazing and awesome episodes that came out from some of our favorite Pokemon podcasts. We hope you enjoy listening to these episodes as much as I did.

Raise a glass! Give a toast and review to these amazing podcasts and more on Apple Podcasts or your pod-catcher of choice. Thank you so much for tuning in and keep listening in 2021!
