I've thought about pursuing this, but when I have the motivation, I don't have the time. And when I have the time, I don't have the motivation LOL. With Gen VI's halved shiny chance, Friend Safari, Hordes, and DexNav, this is now much easier, thank goodness for this poor man. Also, Gen IV's Masuda Method and Gen V's Shiny Charm also help a bit! I can't imagine doing this before Gen VI, though. Regardless, quite impressive!
