I've made some! This is the first one I made in 2010 haha!

    Spoiler:

The most recent one I made in 2013 or 2014 iirc. Thw wings have pipecleaners in them so they're posable! xD

    Spoiler:

I've also made a Houndour, Teddiursa and half a Butterfree I never finished xD

The thing I struggle with most is getting a good pattern for the head! Do you have any tips for aspiring plushie makers? :D

I guess one question I have is do you use a sewing machine or do you do everything by hand? I'm not even sure what's the better method for plushies.

OH MY GOSH those are adorable! And I love that you made a tropius! That's one of my favorite pokemon!

As for the head patterns, what type of head/creature are you thinking of making?

I use a sewing machine, but parts are hand sewed (I also sometimes hand sew really tiny plushies xD). It really all depends! Machine sewing is a faster method, but with certain things it's easier to hand-sew to get more accuracy.

I guess just a basic canine kinda head. Which I assume can be adapted to slightly different shapes. I guess I just haven't got a good "template" down for the head and how many pieces it should be and that kinda stuff. I made a Houndour ages ago and I really hated the head xDD So it got chucked somewhere in my cupboard haha!

I've hand sewed all my plushies (they're pretty small). I got a sewing machine a couple years ago and used it to make curtains and a beanbag cover but not for small stuff yet. I need more practice! But you make so many big cuddly plush, I can see why you'd need to use a machine! Hand sewing always hurts my fingers after a while. xD

Oh, okay. What I do for simple canine heads is to take a basic round head pattern, something like this, with four peices. Then I add a snout to two of the pieces, kinda like this jolteon pattern. Obviously though for houndour you'd want a longer snout, and if making a small one I think a simple snout like that would work.

Haha, yeah, my big plush would take forever to hand sew. XD

You should try it! There are plenty of tutorials out there for beginners.

Not that simple. I have. Multiple times. It usually ends up with a needle in my hand, a ton of crying, and a lot more blood on the fabric than there was to begin with.

I've wanted to make my own cosplay for years but sewing is just a natural talent I do not have. I don't have the steady hands for it, I shake too much so I usually end up accidentally stabbing myself while sewing.

I've never tried it myself but I know people have copied patterns for learning this way.
Ooh that's a really interesting way to do it, with the tape. I think I would even be worried about taping them haha!

You should try! You could make a cute Shaymin :D

Even if you don't turn out to be a natural plushie-making genius, sewing is a really useful skill. I got to impress a boy I liked by offering to sew up a hole in his favourite t-shirt. XD

Saw your edit... ouch! xD I am paranoid of needles so I'm always crazy careful. They still get me sometimes though :/
