That is correct. And my current job pays me nothing. They'll consider me for payment once I work a year, which will be April 2018 at the earliest. Even then, I won't be earning enough to transfer colleges. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll be able to buy UltraSun and UltraMoon with that money. After all, I've already been informed that I won't be receiving those as Christmas gifts this year. In fact, I won't be receiving any pokémon related gifts anymore. "You need to grow up and move away from such childish things. Make use of your time for something productive rather than just sitting on your *** all day taking care of virtual pets that have zero consequence on your life whatsoever. No wonder you made a C in Calculus. All you do is play video games!"

Geez. :/ Seriously it sounds like you do SO MUCH awesome stuff. You should be really proud of yourself for all the things you've achieved. :) I hope you'll be free from them soon! Then you can come visit us in Melbs. :D

On the off chance I don't become a double major, I'll be coming to Australia for sure. If I do become a double major, I'm not sure how or when, but I will definitely come and visit.

Noble, that's ABUSE. Just because they're your parents and just because they're paying for your college doesn't give them any right to do that crap. Man, it soooo reminds me of the father in Dead Poet's Society and I wanted to punch the stuffing out of that creep. No spoilers, but if you've seen it, you know who I'm talking about.

My mother's parents were toxic as hell and hated my dad. You know what my mom did? Ran for the hills. And she never let that toxicity get to her and cause her to do the same to me and my brother and sister. She was an angel who had demons for parents. We tried to give my grandmother another chance many years later and she BLEW IT. Spoiled, wicked, and condescending all the time while always getting drunk. Ties were cut that final time and we didn't even go to her funeral. As for my grandfather, the physical beatings he gave would have landed his mug in an orange jumpsuit in today's day and age. He died before I ever met him and we dodged a bullet with that one because he sounded like he would have done the same to us.

Some people shouldn't be allowed to become parents. And it's sad how there are many good couples who simply can't have kids.

Right now, perhaps not, unfortunately. Probably not until you graduate. But when you do, run. Cut the ties you don't want anymore and put yourself in a position where they have as little leverage over you as possible. If you're already far enough away to the point where they'd have to take a plane to see you, then you're in the right spot, because distance will ensure they don't show up at your doorstep every afternoon to lecture you. And if you want to be somewhere else, work put yourself there. My sister, who was nearly running on fumes financially, just badly wanted to go to Charlotte North Carolina and she finally got her dream going despite the risks. She's been there for years, adores it, and still begs me to go down there to this day.

An email can be deleted. A phone call can be ignored (sweet, sweet caller ID). Even snail mail can be dumped. You'll be in a position where you can communicate as much or as little as you want to with them, and that's the control you need. Strive for that. Write your own Declaration of Independence. Rock that graduation like we know you can and when you do, you're in control. If you want to go into political science fields, I'm sure you'll rock those, but if you ever want to take another career path to pursue what YOU wanted to pursue from the very beginning, you can always get a Master's degree in something else. And take it from someone who has an MBA, they're cheaper, easier, and a little bit faster to get than undergrad. And I know you can rock that too.

Take it from me. You only truly lose if you give up. And at the end of the day, if your parents dislike you becoming what you've always wanted to be in the place where you've always dreamed of going, guess what? THAT'S THEIR PROBLEM, NOT YOURS.

Now go rock those tests and fight for that awesome future you're going to have. :3

Some parents have some crazy plan for their kids or are super over protective. Then, and please don't take offense to this, but I see it a lot. Some parents are very protective and controlling especially over thei daughter. Girls/women/females are always looked at differently when it comes to making their own choices for some reason. Which I don't find very fair because women can make their own decisions just as men can. Sadly that makes your dreams harder the achieve if your own parents hold you back. Family is supposed to be SUPPORTIVE of your choices. Not hold you back. Especially if you tell them whole-heartily what you've been thinking. Unless they had a reason you can just throw out there "oh but we wanted" no! It's YOUR decision what you want. Tracking I can kinda understand their thought process cause again, wanting to keep track of their daughter. I guess they're those kind of parents.

You should have the freedom to choose what YOU want not what they want.

...It's your life, and I've seen you do things that I doubt that's what they want you focusing on, but I thought that they were really amazingly cool. The things you did, that is. (Especially your writing.)

I honestly feel like not EVERYONE has to go to school for something. Not everyone is made for school. And your parents are wasting money making you do something you A. don't want to do and B. won't ever really use later.

Well, don't get me wrong, I wanted to go to college. If I didn't my only other option was to live with them until I could afford to move out and there was no way I was doing that. I just wish I had been allowed to consider more options that were further away like Georgetown or something.

It'll probably be about ten years before I can do anything about this though. I don't want to cut ties entirely, even if they aren't the best parents, they're still family. I don't have any siblings, so if I cut ties with them, there won't be anyone to take care of them. If I abandoned them like that, I'd feel so guilty for the rest of my life I don't think I could live with myself. I'll distance myself, sure, but cut ties? Mm no, I'll still keep in contact because eventually they'll need me to take care of them.
