Live Action Movie! Featuring Detective Pikachu!

The rumors for the rights of a live action Pokemon movie has been settled! This movie is going to be a legendary moment with an interesting character!

It was rumored earlier in the year that the rights for a live action Pokemon movie were being discussed. We haven’t heard much about it since then but it now seems that Legendary Pictures has struck a deal with The Pokemon Company International.
The contents of the movie is being kept under wraps but it has been reveal that it will be based Detective Pikachu. This character is from the Detective Pikachu series that was release in Japan back in February. It looks like Legendary thought that the game would be perfect to adapt into a movie due to the cut scenes that the game uses.
I could see why Detective Pikachu was chosen to base a movie on. It provides older fans with something new and different while also being family friendly for younger fans.
The movie will be distributed by Toho in Japan and Universal outside of Japan. The movie will start production in 2017.

So if it's releasing outside of Japan I guess that confirms that the game WILL be coming out sometime in the near future around the world as well. Still this is amazing news to hear! I can't wait to hear more on in over the course of time.

I think this is gonna be a mess, oh lord LOL. Live-action Pokemon always seemed a bit iffy to me. But I guess we'll see! A lot of people are trying to get Danny Devito to voice Pikachu...

As long as it doesn't feature Ash, we're already off to a good start.

I still have mixed feelings about this, though. If they could somehow convince or otherwise blackmail Danny Devito into doing Pikachu's voice, there's potential for this to be both enjoyed by kids and adults. I think the only way they can pull it off is to not take it too seriously. Good storyline, VERY EFFECTIVE HUMOR, and exceptional acting may make it squeeze through with a decent rating. It's still going to be a lot like walking on thin ice, however, but if they do everything right and play their cards as best and as resourcefully as they can, they could pull it off.

I kind of want to think of it like the movie Ted, but instead of a teddy bear and all the crude M-rated humor, we've got a Pikachu with Danny Devito's voice solving a mystery that is actually well-thought out and has plenty of decent plot twists. Keep the childlike charm to it, but have plenty of humor adults can appreciate and relate to also. Zootopia did it, these guys could do it also.

But yeah, we'll still need to keep our fingers crossed for this one.

Yeeaaahhh, this is a bit of weird news. xD I guess we'll have to see. Danny DeVito doing his voice would be amazing, but would that mean he speaks English? I guess it'd be a "speaks English to the camera/audience but says "Pika pika" to humans" type of deal. Who knows! I agree with Neo about the necessities of a great plot and suitable humour. If it's a lame kiddy movie then I think it'll flop.

I think using Detective Pikachu is a pretty good idea. My main worry when we first heard of the live action news was that they won't be able to make a movie that appeals to the fans. Most fans were asking for a movie that presents Pokemon in the gritty, adult manner. The problem with that movie is that it won't be for the kid fanbase that Pokemon is constantly trying to appeal to.

By doing this, they could make a product that kids could watch but also have some themes that could relate to kids. I am a bit more positive about this movie now.
