On my forum me and my staff have a system of 'manual purging' , where, say there is a birthday thread, we leave it open for maybe a month or two at most, then we lock it, then a month later move it the trash section. This keeps the general discussion area nice and neat and not overly cluttered. The general discussion on my forum is still within two pages by doing this and I like it like that. No reason to keep a thread like that open forever, you can just create a new topic for it next year. Lol
Yeah, I feel that. I've had the staff make me some Archives for the ASBL, so that I can store all the irrelevant, long finished battles and threads away somewhere where they can still be reached, but aren't making things look chaotic. In the important forums, that is. The archives are a mess.

I do the same in real life. There's always that one cupboard.
