Up north a little snow doesn't hurt and you're always prepared without havoc. Meanwhile, here in the south. A chance of a snowstorm is a fear. People go crazy to buy water, flashlights and batteries, de-icers, snow boots, etc. that and the state will shut down over just saaaay....an inch or two of snow. Ice is a shutdown regardless because of the danger. On a family trip to Virginia years ago, we decided to go to a snow tubing/skiing resort just to have some fun. It was up in West Virgina, so we went up there after visiting family up in Virginia. We had fun, but after we started heading home. We got into a big accident. We still don't know and never will know if the driver fell asleep or the vehicle caught some ice, but on the highway back..an 18-wheeler moved into our lane and pinned us against the guard railing. We both veered off into the median. Expecting to stop, but he completely turned back around and got back on the highway and drove off. My dad saw two other truck drivers that pulled over after seeing it. He still thinks it was one of them, but I remember keeping track of the truck as it drove off and he chased it. Luckily they were able to give statements as well to the police. Still leaves bad thoughts in my mind driving by an 18-wheeler on the road even now. If he had pulled over not long before that on the road, we would've rolled off into a pretty big drop off because there was no railing there.
