Ohmori: Veteran Devs Working on Pokemon Switch

Ohmori gives some hints on who is working on the big Pokemon Switch project.

According to a recent interview with GameSpot, Shigeru Ohmori claims that GameFreak are going with the tried and tested developers for the upcoming Pokemon Switch.
Pokemon Producer Shigeru Ohmori stated in a recent interview with GameSpot that the upcoming games, reportedly the last for the 3DS, have been handled by a younger development team to help hone their skills. However, he did make sure to mention that the staff, while small, is varied:
Of course we have a limited number of staff available to us, but we have a very varied staff within the company. We have younger staff members and also veterans who have been working on the series for a long time, very technically gifted staff members. We want to use these staff in the best way possible. For example this time with Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon we can treat it mainly as a project for our younger staff to work on and grow and develop their skills, while perhaps the more veteran, established members of the company can work on the upcoming [Switch] project.
That’s an approach we often take: having a growth-based project for younger staff members and then a new project for the existing veterans. Using this project management style ensures all of our projects have a positive effect on one another as they go.”
While the hype train is in full effect now that USUM is just over two weeks away, it seems that Ohmori covered all his bases by reassuring the fans that the next step for the series is in experienced hands.

Interesting. I hope USUM are still good. xD Really looking forward to seeing what they do with the switch though.

I suppose that's a cool way to handle the different levels of experience in the studio. :) I wonder when someone stops being new and becomes an experienced developer. I'm also pretty keen for the Switch game, though I don't have a Switch yet. xD Can't wait to find out more about it!

@Pokemon Trainer Sarah I feel like Game Freak is always consistent with their games; they never really have a huge flop. So I trust their judgement more than, say, Bioware, who chucked new people on the 4th Mass Effect title and proceeded to ruin literally everything. xD Plus, I think it's a whole lot easier to take a game that's already developed and then add changes to it, which is basically what US/UM are. They had an entire game as the base, so I doubt that there's really much they could mess up. As well as that, Game Freak strikes me as the kind of company that is quite careful about the staff they hire. They probably have hundreds of applications per day, and pick only the best. xD

Those are really good points, that they already had a game they just had to edit and they have always been consistently good. I do appreciate that about Pokemon, that there are very rarely any glitches or stuff which seem really common in other games.

I don't have a switch either but am definitely going to buy one for the new Pokemon game! :D Hoepfully it'll be cheaper by then too xD
