Yeah, ImageShack is another one that went to the dark side. It just kept getting fussier and fussier about uploads until it just became way too much of a pain in the butt to even bother with. I only used it for uploading wallpaper, because at the time, Photobucket had a dimension limit whereas ImageShack didn't. But even for those rare instances, it was just a lot of hassle.
It must be expensive to host all those images so I can see why they had to get fussier and put in more ads and stuff, but it really wrecked those sites. Hopefully imgur can keep going how it is.
I mean yeah they can, but there could be other and simpler ways than giving everyone that supported the website over the years a giant sucker punch and lose everything they stored over the years.
The time is upon us...

Yeah, this is my thing about it. If hosting costs were getting too expensive or demanding, it would make sense that they issue out a warning or notice that soon they'll have to charge money or something like that and that all free accounts would have to be upgraded with a paid subscription or deleted. Nope, it was just DELETE EVERYTHING and give the finger to every user that could have prepared to relocate their stuff.
I don't miss it, though. It was having so many stability issues and so often links to images would go down. Still, now you see so many of those annoying and giant "PLEASE UPDATE YOUR ACCOUNT TO ENABLE 3RD PARTY HOSTING" things all over the place. Every little sprite and icon got murdered and replaced by those giant eyesores. >.<
I destroyed my finger
