Pokemon Crystal to be Re-release!

Get ready to travel the Johto region one more time!
It has been announced that Pokemon Crystal will be released on the Virtual Console. Pokemon Trainers will be able to travel the Johto region as it was back in the early 2000s!
Pokemon Crystal had many of Pokemon’s firsts. One of the most famous ones was the first time players were allow to choose between a male or female playable character. The other first was animations for Pokemon as they enter the battle. It was also Pokemon’s first main series game on the Game Boy Color.
This release of Pokemon Crystal will allow trainers the chance to capture Celebi within the game. Japanese players will be given the GS Ball after they defeat the Elite Four. This GS Ball can be given to Kurt who will in return award Celebi to the players. It is unsure if this feature will be carried over to international releases.
Originally, Celebi was distributed to Japanese players using a special cell phone accessory. This item allowed players to trade and battle across Japan. It was Pokemon’s first attempted at wireless communication. This feature was never brought over to international versions.
Get ready to experience the Johto region in maybe one of the best games that Pokemon has released. Watch the trailer below for more details!
Pokemon Crystal will be release on January 26th, 2018.

The Lord of Awesome
Super excited for this, personally. Crystal was so revolutionary in the progression of Pokemon games. The key aspect being the first game to allow you to choose between a male and female characters, another is being the first to animate its sprites going into battle. It will be an incredible act of nostalgia for a good handful of members on this board, and for people across the world. My wife in particular, her first game was Pokemon Crystal. I know lots of people who got into Pokemon with Crystal (likely because of the male/female option) and then Ruby and Sapphire. This game, I believe, was monumental in the growth of Pokemon's popularity.
I do want to say, though.. As far as main series games, Crystal is actually the only game solely for that console. Gold and Silver are actually still playable on the original Gameboy console. Alternatively The original RBGY games were playable on the GBC, and you got color in those games, even though they were made for the original Gameboy. Pokemon Yellow, specifically, because it was more 'Full Color' than the other three. After that, I believe Pokemon Puzzle Challenge is the only other game solely for the GBC console (I don't count the TCG sequel because it was only released in Japan and incredibly under the radar. :P).

The applause, applause, applause~
I was disappointed that they didn't release Crystal back in September. I haven't even touch my Gold. Now I wish I can trade in my Gold for Crystal. Either way. Glad to see this game come out.
Pokemon Pinball was also another Pokemon game on Gameboy Color.

Molly, you're so adorable!
I am so looking forward to this, even if I never played Crystal quite as much as the other Game Boy-era games!
Once Crystal is released and I buy its download, my Pokémon life will be complete in that I finally will get to legally play again all of the main series Game Boy games in which I traded in their cartridges that I had 12 years ago (as of next month), but this time around, on my 2DS as digital downloads.
I'm hoping to get some money loaded into my eShop account sometime in early or mid-January, before the release date.
Previously, I was expecting that if Crystal were to get re-released, the announcement would instead come in late winter or early spring for a summer 2018 release.

growing strong
Wonder why they released it later then the other two.
I haven't looked into VC games at all but is it kind of like steam where you can buy the games on your Nintendo account and then play them on any console (3DS, switch, possible future ones)? Or do you just buy them for the 3ds? I have the original cartridges but I'd like to have all the virtual copies with Dave files that actually work and knowing I'll always be able to play them. But that only works if they are not only on 3DS which is being phased out I think...

Pop Goes the Gleamsel.
I knew they wouldn't live Crystal out of this. Maybe they just wanted to wait to release it?
