I came in like a wrecking ball...
Name: Thomas (Tommy) Smythe (Impact)
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Power (If any): Telekinesis
Appearance: Tommy stands at 5 ft 11, with a slim build and pale complexion. His messy jet black hair is medium length, however tends to keep out of his face. He has sharp blue eyes, and usually has black stubble.
His usual attire consists of a pair of jeans, a band tshirt, and a long sleeved, button up, flannel shirt over the top. When the weather cools down, the flannel shirt might be replaced with a hooded jacket.
When wearing the metaphoric cape of Impact, he wears a pair of kevlar jeans, and motocross armour over a black hoodie. A black cloth bandana covers the lower half of his face.
History:
Tommy was born and grew up on the south end of Manhattan. His childhood was spent with a love of comic books and superheroes. Ever since he was young, his free time was spent reading comic books and dreaming of becoming a superhero himself.
When he was thirteen, his dream came true, to a degree. In the middle of winter, he walked to a store on the north end, attempting to find a Christmas gift for his mother.
On his way back, he took a shortcut through Central Park, however found himself face to face with a thug demanding his wallet and phone.
Tommy froze and panicked when the thug pulled a knife. He couldn’t move, and when the mugger thought he wasn’t complying, he took a step towards him.
It took Tommy days to process what happened next. He closed his eyes, expecting this to be the end, before seeing a flash of light, and hearing a loud boom.
When he opened them, the thug was unconscious against a nearby tree, and the snow on the ground around him was now pushed away in a perfect circle.
Tommy ran home, in shock about what had just happened, and still unsure. When he got home, he went to sleep, trying to pretend it didn’t happen.
The next morning, he realized he had been seen. A security camera had caught the whole incident on video.
Luckily for Tommy, he was wearing his hood, and had his back to the camera. The video showed the mugger step towards him with a knife, before there was a flash of light from Tommy’s eyes, and a bang, before the mugger was thrown into a tree meters away.
After the video was a phone number labelled as the Foram Information Line, and a presenter begging the public to report any information related to this incident, and that the Foram in question was extremely dangerous.
Tommy locked himself in his room for the next two days, fearful of what would happen to him if he were found out. He browsed the internet, trying to figure out what it meant to be a Foram, and learnt of the Foraminis Meteor Shower, and found conspiracy theory blogs about what happens to Foram who are caught, adding to his fear.
However he also found support online. Groups of people advocating for fair treatment of Foram, and freedom for them to be themselves. People who believed him to be a hero.
It was winter break, so Tommy had no school, and spent the next week hidden at home, waiting for the media attention to die down. A week later, the news stated that there were no leads on finding the Central Park Foram, so Tommy snuck out, taking a subway to Queens, and dumping his hoodie in a bin there.
After that, he began training his power in secret. First he learnt to life objects with his mind, gradually lifting heavier and more awkward objects with ease, eventually able to lift nearly eighty kilograms without physically moving a muscle. He used this skill to levitate himself, allowing himself to jump higher. As first it was another metre or two, however eventually he was able to launch himself onto the fire escapes of buildings.
All the while, he kept his powers a secret, making sure to always wear his hood whilst he practised in case he was seen. This went on for the next nine years.
During school, he joined the computer club, and studied programming and networking, eventually going to college to study Ethical Hacking, graduating at the top of his class at age 20.
Tommy found work with the NYPD, working with their Cyber Division.
When he was 22, and had been with the NYPD for about 18 months, got a loan and bought a loft, using it as his base of operations for his new hobby.
Covering his steps, he created a website, introducing himself to the world as Impact, the first Foram vigilante. His first night out, he stopped an armed robbery, and when he got back that night, hacked the security system of the store to get the footage, before posting it on his website, and explaining what he stood for. Foram being able to use their gifts to benefit mankind.
For the next three years, Tommy continued to hit the streets at night as Impact, stopping crime, and narrowly escaping the police, using his own position in the police force to aid in his own fight against crime, and to cover his own tracks.
In that time other vigilantes popped up, however very few of them lasted more than a few months before retiring, getting caught and arrested, or getting injured. However Impact continued, and found fame among New York City.
When Demon’s Run emerged, Impact made statements in opposition of Demon’s Run’s methods, and when he could, attempted to stop their attacks, and help with supporting the victims of the attacks. However they were never enough of a problem to be his main concern.
On Christmas Eve of 2017, Demon’s Run seemingly changed their attitude, making a public threat to overrun Manhattan. Impact since then has ceased his general crime fighting in order to focus on investigating Demon’s Run and what their plan is.
Personality:
Tommy looks at the world and sees an epidemic of fear. Society’s fear of Foram, Foram fear to be themselves, and everyone fearing their own safety. Tommy believes that people should be able to live without fear, and fights for that, both by giving non-Foram a reason to trust the Foram, to try and create a world where Foram can live without hiding who they are, and that they use their abilities to benefit mankind.
Tommy tends to be a fairly genuine person, with the exception of his vigilante life. He tends to be honest, and forward with how he feels. Otherwise he tends to be fairly warm and friendly, avoiding conflict if he can.
Tommy is a master in his field, however when he is deep in his work, sometimes forgets that not everybody is as educated with computer systems as he is. Sometimes he works better by not explaining himself, but just being silent and working.
Alignment (If any):
