GoFundMe is becoming the largest provider of health coverage... ._.

I have a cousin who is trying to raise 100K because her husband had a brain aneurysm. I can't understand why his union isn't paying for at least some of that...

All these insurance and medical ploys are one big money grabber. Some of these medicines are made so cheaply and sold at prices of hundreds of dollars. By cheaply I mean about $5-10 for their value being sold at around $400. It's totally not fair as it's like saying "hey you gotta pay steep prices if you wanna keep living." Some of these things should be easily covered especially under certain given circumstances.

    It's beyond ridiculous.

I get some of it. Having worked in medical research and development, you see a LOT of projects go bust because all their attempts to solve a problem just don't work out even after a company has dumped millions into it or there are still too many risks. But even when the product does work and can be successful, the amount of regulations and work that needs to go into testing and validating everything can be extremely expensive and takes years to get finished before the product can be launched.

Sure, while the medicines themselves might be cheap to make once they have the formula and device application created, it's the research and development process that goes into that where a company wants to make money on all the work and expense they went through to get a perfected prototype created, tested, revised, and then manufactured. But still, they've got to be reasonable too. The average American isn't a millionaire and can't afford a hospital stay like they're just checking into a hotel. When you have people bleeding out calling an Uber to get to the hospital because an ambulance ride is $600+, there's something seriously wrong.

Now if it's something you caused yourself through self based harm (intentional). I could easily see if it wouldn't be covered. Though even when it's covered? It's ridiculous!

yeah it's a super important thing through research and development. Just look at all those plaque games or infection based games. How researching takes tons of support, time, and money. It's very much so in real life. Research, testing, rinse, and repeat (even after a successful test to help improve it). It's vital to the stabilization and future improvements on this world and life.

Also most of these medicines and such are doctor prescribed or otherwise illegal for it being "drug" based. So there's also that.

Yeah as Neo said, the medicine might not cost much to make once it's been perfected but decades of research and millions Of dollars go into the research and development side. A new cancer drug just got approved which was developed at my institute and they had been working on that since the 80s!!! That's over 30 years of research by hundreds if not thousands of people.

The big pharma companies still make ridiculous amounts of profit, of course. But it's a necessary evil right now unfortunately since the government keeps cutting research funding, so the money needs to come from somewhere, in this case industry...

    That's good to hear!

But yeah, it's sad when someone's life could have been saved if only they had the money to get a medication.
