The time has come! The next two new Pokemon games have been announced in today’s Nintendo Direct. And they are…

Pokemon Sword and Shield!

The new games take place in the Galar Region. With clockworks, bridges, rivers, and more, the place has a very Nordic vibe to it. The trailer also teased vast forests, frigid mountains, and sprawling plains in the region. Don’t worry though, you won’t be traveling alone. Old fan favorites like Pikachu, Minccino, and Munchlax were shown to be natives to this region. But that’s not all, as with all new Pokemon regions, there’s new Pokemon for you to encounter as well. The Galar Region is no different.

Meet the three Pokemon that could become your starter for this region: Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble.

Grookey is a grass type monkey-like pokemon that appears to like to play music with the stick on its head, banging rocks like a drum.

Scorbunny is a swift firey bunny Pokemon that can light things on fire with its feet as it runs around. It appears very confident and lively.

Sobble is a shy water type lizard pokemon that blows bubbles and tends to hide in the water to avoid attackers.
The game also seems to return to the same turn-based battle system of prior games as opposed to the more Pokemon GO style that was adopted for Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee. It will be released in late 2019.

It sounded like in the direct that gyms are in fact returning but since they didn't state it outright I didn't want to put it in the article.

They also hinted at the end that this isn't the only Pokemon game to be announced this year either.

Personally I think I like Scorbunny the best but honestly I love them all.

I mean I actually quite liked trials since I found they were a nice nod to the culture of the region they were based on and such but I know most people don't like them very much. Not that I dislike gyms but trials were fun too.

Yea! But they didn't state what it would be. I'm hoping new PMD though.

I'm excited myself! I think (this is just me speculating). While the base region looks more like England. I feel the general appeal looks more German? Hints toward that with Minccino being seen used in the trailer.

As far as starters, I'm easy to jump right to Scorbunny xD. I can't wait to see more on these new starters and this new region and what secrets that it holds.

That as well as I'm excited to see what these other projects are in store for Pokemon this year. Since they did state that there are more planned for "this year." Fingers crossed for a new PMD game on the Switch this time!

Ahh! I see lots of the UK in the setting here. There was kinda a hint at this in Sun & Moon someone, (I think it was the PC's mother?) has a picture of Stonehenge on the wall.

But regardless, Sobble! <3 10/10, best new pokemon. I must have it now!

Sobble is so cute, I want it but I always pick the grass type, I can't change now!

And yes I definitely think it's Europe-y, which is exciting! Everything looks great!!
