    Social Media

What social media do you guys use? I'm really only on Twitter. You guys can count discord as social media, if you'd like.

I have multiple different twitters for multiple different fandoms, but I usually socialize on one more than the others, the one I use the most (that isn't private) I use for Love Live! School Idol Festival and to reply to people I normally wouldn't on my other accounts.

What about you guys? Anyone still use Tumblr (as if lol)?

I used to use social media, but I quit when they got really political and things got ugly. Honestly, for me, it's been better without those things. So I just deleted my Twitter account and just let my Facebook account collect dust. Really, I'm trying to forget the things I saw from people I didn't know had such an ugly side to them.

And yeah, I couldn't believe how many ads on Facebook were total scams. Geez.

If discord counts, discord. But I don't have the PXR discord, so i usually talk mindlessly to my friends.

I use twitter, which lasts for like a few seconds before i click off and go back to youtube.

I used to have Facebook but I don't use it anymore. I don't use any social media. I get too mad at people saying dumb things. I'm definitely happier since I quit. Though I hardly go online any more. I really prefer forums for communicating - I don't really like instant messaging. I'm really sad that golden age of the internet is over! Sometimes I just wanna talk about a topic and I have no idea how to find somewhere to do that anymore. xD

This resonates so much with me.

Everyone's going off to Discord and I just like the simplicity and ease of forums. It's so much easier to revisit older content on a forum than it is on Discord. Not to mention I don't think I could RP on messenger. I need time and space to develop my ideas and messengers just move too quickly and are too brief to really get that depth and breadth I want to get into.

My Facebook has been abandoned for over a year and I deleted my Twitter a while ago. Barely used it so there wasn't much to miss.

But yeah, the reason outage and the memes about people being free and happy again... really makes me wonder why people use social media in the first place if its so toxic. xD

I too miss the days of forums being as big as they were.

I use Facebook these days, though if not for my reliance on it for work purposes, I think I'd try and get rid of it, if I weren't too addicted to it. I miss the days when Facebook showed content that your friends posted. It started going downhill when someone commenting on a post warranted it showing up on my feed. And now, it just shows videos it thinks I will like. Honestly, if I could have Facebook only show posts made by my friends and pages I follow, I'd enjoy it much more. It's just so saturated with s**t these days...

Instagram I would hold on to. I like sharing photos there, and prefer it to Facebook.

I use Reddit when I want to kill time, however I hate how echochambery it is.

Discord gets a lot of use as well, especially since we run our online youth program on that.

Why can't it be 2008 again and forums are thriving?

I totally agree with both of you! Forums are great for having actual in-depth discussions and actually making friends. I also really like the anonymity of forums because you can be whoever you want. I don't really like putting my real name to things and I never really posted on Facebook because of that, even when I did use it.

I did go on Reddit a fair bit (recently quit that too for similar reasons to Facebook xD) but I find the anonymity on Reddit goes a bit too far and people often act overly silly/troll because of it. It doesn't feel like you get to know people or have a real community. Like I never even paid attention to usernames there.

I read all these things about people being lonely and wanting to connect and I still feel like forums are an ideal place for that and it makes me sad that most people will never get to experience what it's like to have these real amazing connections without even having to know someone's real name. I think discord has become a replacement to an extent, as in, it attracts the crowd that would have been on forums back in the day, but it's way more limited than forums because you can only really have brief conversations and people have to be online at the same time to even do that. I often don't feel like chatting in real time and much prefer to leave a message and reply again when I feel like it. Whereas instant messaging requires more small talk which I'm not good at. xD

Ahh I'm getting all nostalgic now xD I still hope forums make a come back some day in some form. Who knows!

I miss the glory days of forums too, they were great when I was younger and wanted to meet people who were into the same stuff as I was.

I'm very much active on Discord now because it's largely replaced forums like you said, but yeah, something isn't quite the same about it, it's like an instant messenger crossed with a forum and that takes part of the charm out of it, I think. Either way, still a great place to be, and my username is the same on Discord as it is here. Blaquaza#1347, for anyone interested. :D

Reddit's also kinda similar, but generally a lot more negative and a bit too anonymous in comparison to forums because it's so broad. Smaller subreddits where you recognise usernames are my favourites, even though a lot of the times they're the ones I lurk in rather than posting.

I work as in SMCM so I use social media a lot as part of my job. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, you name it I'm probably on it in some form or fashion through work. But in terms of personal usage, while I have accounts on a lot of these sites, I don't use them much outside of posting my artwork on them. I mostly stick to Discord and Tumblr these days as my main hubs for activity. I still browse Twitter and Instagram some but not too much because I'm still working on curating my feeds to only show content I'm interested in.
