Winter's Sharing Time (Poems and Stuff)

[Winter]

So. I write poetry sometimes. I have to be in a certain mood to do it, but...yeah. I've been in a poetry mood most of this morning, and felt like sharing, so... Here. Have some poetry from Winter. XD Some of this is old, some of it is new, take it for what you will.

Shoes

Spoiler:

I stare down
At the all black Converse
With the neon green laces
On my feet.

They're a full size too big,
Feel kinda floppy,
Because they're elevens rather than tens
But I couldn't let go of the box in the store.

They look like boots,
Only high tops I liked,
Reminds me of my childhood
When I would try to wear my father's shoes.

He wore heavy work boots
Way too big for me.
They would swallow me whole,
Trip me up.

Now I'm 16 going on 17
And staring at a pair of all black Converse
With neon green laces
On my feet.

I'm all grown up now (well, mostly)
But now I'm wearing shoes a full size too big
And thinking, remembering
About a time when I ran around wearing my father's shoes.

Fun Fact: I think I still have those shoes. My mother HATES them.


The Best Friend's Fate

Spoiler:

I watch her slip
Through my fingers
Like grains of sand that
Have already become little
Shards of glass
That cut as the slide
Out of my grasp.

But some catch
In the wounds,
And sting and stay
So I can never truly let her go
Even when she never tried
To hold onto me in turn,
Never tried
To hold onto any of
Us from her past in turn.

More than ten years
Without word,
And I
Still held onto some
Crazy hope that
Maybe she would come back,
Send word back
Give us any sign that she was
Still alive.
But she gave none.

And then a call.
She’s getting married,
Going to have twins,
And she never planned
To tell me
Or any of us.

The guy’s nice,
But he’s slipping
More rapidly through her fingers
Than she is mine.
But she will go through with it
Anyway.

And she is tough,
Tougher than any other girl
I ever knew,
But I also know she is likely
To break a second time,
Like she did the first…

But she will not
Listen to me.
And so I will watch
Her slip through my fingers
Yet never allow me to let her go,
Not completely.
Even when she hates me
And I
Am doomed to watch her
Break again.

Fun Fact: This? It's not about me, but a male character of mine. I had a friend who read it and thought it was...his reaction was pretty hilarious.


Leaving Rome

Spoiler:

Rome was not
Built in a day.
Rome did not
Fall in a day either.

But nothing is more
Saddening than knowing
The same hands that
You used to build Rome
You also used to
Pull Rome down,
Packed up your belongings,
And pulled them,
To another home you cannot
Quite begin to make your own

Fun Fact: Written the day my family and I moved out of our old house.


Little Match Girl

Spoiler:

You are
Frigid, Freezing, Colder than Cold
Your solution? Take yourself
What makes you live--
Your own embers, and
Kindle them into flames.

Silly little match girl
If only you knew
You were burning off
Your own life.

Instead you wonder
Why you never get any warmer,
But grow hollow
And your body fills with ice.

Fun Fact: Written at almost 2 am for an ollllllllld RP character who decided she wanted me to remember her.

Sola

The trees that grow
In the heart of long forgotten
Forests, that have been
Left alone for so long
They don't remember
When they were just saplings.

When I voice these thoughts,
The breeze only laughs,
Ruffles my hair like I
Think my mom used to.
It whispers back,
"Eighteen is not ancient, dearest,"
But it doesn't know like I do.

Minutes with him were years
Hours were decades
Twelve years was forever,
Until one day came along
And an old lullaby
Broke the curse.

Phantom

Wants to be
Loved, just like
Everyone else,
But when someone
Comes too close--
Shoves them away and
Screams "Don't touch me!
I don't want you to die!"

(Sucks in their color because they suck out his own.)

Just Imagine

Quietly, in the dark
Two hands reach,
Search across empty miles
To beds beyond their own
Seeking cold,
Seeking warmth,
From the other.

For a moment,
If they believe hard enough,
Their fingerstips might just
Brush before the connection
Snaps.

Fun fact: Mmmm...I'll leave this one up to complete speculation. XD

Kanon

Spoiler:

Everything is beautiful, dear
Child. Remember that.
Could be wonderful beauty
That takes your breath
Away, launches a thousand
Ships, even starts entire
Wars, or
Could be terrible beauty
That disgusts you, makes
You turn your eyes
Away, cry out in your darkest
Nightmares for the bad to
End, but
No matter what,
Dearest, don't you ever
Forget that because
I think I have and
All the color has run
Out into the gutters like
The blood of innocents
Who were just in the wrong
Place at the wrong
Time, and I swear I love

Only truth I ever knew
Turned to dust on the wind.

I love you but
The beauty's all
Gone and so I
Just can't stay.

Fun fact: My brain just kind of exploded into words. Based on one of my most obscure NPCs in a RP ever. XD And she'll never make an appearance, either.

Conversation

I like them! They are pretty good! I'm not sure how I feel about how you split up your sentences onto different lines so often, but that's just my opinion. I particularly liked "Warning" And "The Best Friends Fate"

Thank you, DM! I tend to write my poetry split like that partly because I simply don't like long lines in poetry, and partly because that's how I've seen it done by the poets I like. That, and I feel like if I made my lines much longer in some places, it'd come out looking a lot like how I write normally. Glad to know there are favorites...I think my favorite of all of them would have to be "Little Match Girl" or "Warning." The narrator of "The Best Friend's Fate" actually has several pieces (both poetry and prose) I've written for him (also done art for him), but I'm not as fond of those as I am of that particular piece.

These are really good, Winter! My favourite would be Little Match Girl too. :) I like how the last line sounds and it rhymes with the previous paragraph, tying it together nicely. Your newest one is really nice, too. Makes me wonder about the story behind it!

XDDD I actually don't write much about my own life/people I know. Here, Shoes and Leaving Rome are the only exceptions. Everything else is based on characters I've worked with, be it in stories, RPs, etc. The stories behind them are no less complex, though... Actually Sola's (in this case, since there are a few different versions of her, so to speak) is pretty twisted, and actually ties into The Best Friend's Fate, though unless you know all the connections (oh gosh, there are so many now), it's not going to click completely. XD

I'm really glad to hear you like these, though!

Plus, is it odd that I sing in a rhythm to your poems and everyone else's? xD But what was weird to me is that I felt a bit of tears coming on as I sung it... Man, these poems are sooooo emotional... Keep up the good work, honestly!
