PLEASE tell me there are others on PXR that have at LEAST heard of Starbound.

Where do I even begin? Its such a spectacular game, and the full version is almost complete!

Starbound is a game similar to Terraria and several other similar games, only that EVERYTHING is procedurally generated. Well, most everything, anyway. What is procedural generation, you ask? Basically it's just...

Well, let's use monsters for an example. For each planet, monsters are randomly generated. The game selects from quadrupeds to bipeds, then determines what the head, body, and tail / rear will look like using random selection from lists of body / head / whatever types. What attacks a monster has depends on these body parts, as well.

But its not about the monsters. Firstly, even though these things are all generated randomly, a coordinate system exists. So for instance, Planet 1 would be the same on my game as it would be on your copy of Starbound, so long as the coords are the exact same.

You wander around space and jump from planet to planet to do whatever. Collect resources, farm, build, all sorts of stuff.

The game is 2d, but the sprites are soft and beautiful, unlike Terraria. I'm sorry, but the pixel art in Terraria sucks ***.

Truth is, there's a **** ton of things you can do in this game.

Its in beta right now but its REALLY far along. As of now I believe its only 15 bucks, but they plan on jacking the price up as soon as the full version is released.

The first version of beta was released on December 4, 2013! Christ, can you believe its been THAT long??

Wow a thread about a game I have actually played! My friend got this game for me and we have been playing it a lot lately! It's so fun! I am an avian because birds are cool. :D I love how all the planets are so different. Found one covered with poison oceans the other day and it was raining acid rain. xD Didn't spend long there haha. Currently building a giant house with all the loot we have gathered. :D I heard out was a kickstarter game, which is pretty cool. It did take a long time for an update, hopefully the final version week be ready soon. I've seen that they might include fossils which would be great!

I'm a Hylotl. I always have been for some reason. Avians are awesome though, I love their customization options! 8D so colorful. By the way, you know the racial armor bonuses? Such as more inventory space for humans, breathing underwater for Hylotl, etc? As far as I know, those have been applied now! At least the one for Hylotl have anyway XD

There's so much stuff in this game. SO MUCH FOOD. And random objects. Some.new Interesting things are the Bio Sample, which is really useful, and the Toxic Waste that you can get from trees that are from those poison ocean planets.

I just tried it out and the antidote item that you can make from the Bio Sample doesn't protect you from acid rain. Lame...I hope the fact that this game has been so lahgy for me is about the game and not.my computer. XD I don't usually experience this much lag in other games though...

And OMG yes fossils that will be SO cool. And the implementation of pets, too! Besides just.dogs. xD

Ooh Hylotl are nice. I didn't know anything about the game before I started but I was having a tough time picking a race between floran and avian. Now that I have seen the crazy florans I am kinda glad I picked avian xD plus I do love the colourful armour! I didn't know there were armour bonuses! Gonna go look that up now! I never played before the update so I'm not sure what's been added but I've heard it's a lot of stuff! Can you do anything with toxic waste? I found some of that the other day xD

I tried to catch some different monsters with the pokeball things but I'm terrible at it. xD And I kept dying and they would disappear haha. I noticed some monsters seemed impossible to catch so I was wondering if you can only catch small monsters or something. Still so much to do! :D My computer isn't great bit I get lag too. It takes forever to load when I start it up. xD When playing it's alright as long as I don't use full screen.

Also was the first boss really hard or was it just me? xD My friend and I struggled even with two of us doing it! We had to try so many times!

Hahah, Florans are charming in their own ways. XD A lot of lore in game has kinda hinted at the fact that they're actually rather innocent, but their barbarian ways are just integrated into their culture So much.

Yeah, I get phone typos too hahah

The thing about Hylotl though is that they're really stuck-up. That's probably why the Florans decided to attack their home world. xD

I'm not sure, but according to the official wiki it's a crafting ingredient in the yellow stim pack item.

Yeah, you can only catch the ones that are at their "baby" stage, so to speak. I don't think they've integrated growth into the game yet, though. In all honesty the whole capsule monster system is VERY rusty because you have to remember what ball contains what monster and If you lose a ball then you're screwed and your monster is gone forever.

Yeah, the Erchius Horror is pretty difficult and its really time consuming to finally get to. The wiki tells you of the strategy you need to beat it. Its fairly simple once you finally beat it XD

Just wait until the next boss: Dreadwing. Dreadwing really sucks in this version of the game. Lots of concentration until I finally beat him...

Yeah, usually I have to open it, then exit out of it, then open it again and then wait a while before it opens up.

And it's funny because I can even get a good FPS on Minecraft, yet Starbound is in 2D. Its gotta be the game and I hope they re optimize it soon...then again I think it may be because I accidentally opted back into the unstable update.

Ooh okay. I don't really know much about the lore behind it, just that some Floran tried to kill me. XD I have actually beaten all the missions (I think... I have the last set (tier 6) of armour anyway). I did them all with my friend so it was a lot easier than doing it by myself. I found the rest of them way easier than the first mission. But I probably couldn't have done any of them by myself. xD

Ohh okay, that makes sense about only catching baby monsters. I really wanted a rock-spitting dragon I found underground! That's true that you have to remember which balls they're in and everything. I haven't been able to keep enough to worry about that though haha.

I was looking on the reddit for Starbound yesterday and some people have done some really cool stuff by wiring things. Might have to look into that next! I also saw that there were some cool mods.

That is weird that it lags so much. Hopefully it will all be fixed with the next update!

Hey guys! So for anyone who's interested in Starbound, the full game is being released on July 22! Anyone besides just me pumped for the release?? 8D If you haven't bought the game already, now would be a good time to before the price jumps up

I've been playing this weekend. It's pretty awesome! I can't believe how much new stuff they've added since I last played. Though I guess that was like a year and a half ago now. xD
