After trailing muddily through the checkpoint station, Alice was relieved to be back outside. Dealing with the authorities was always nerve wracking these days. She constantly feared being recognised.

They hadn't got much further when a new obstacle arose. The bridge before them had been destroyed. A Snorlax slept in the wreckage 20 feet below. There was no way to cross, much to the dismay of the gathering trainers. Police officers seemed to be directing trainers to turn around.

"Guys, surely there must another path to Lavender city from here, what do you say we spread out and try to find one?" Brandon asked.

"Yeah there's no way we can go back... but this bridge is huge, I can't imagine another crossing. If only we knew how to Surf around..."

Alice looked down at the Snorlax. Something that huge would probably be able to carry them down and across the gap. Alice thought of her own Pokemon. Aster's strong vines could possibly be able to reach over to the other side... but even then they would only be strong enough to carry one of them...

Alice yawned. It had been a mostly uneventful day, which she was grateful for. But she was still tired. She had hoped to reach Lavender Town tonight and sleep in a nice warm bed. Maybe the policemen could direct them to an alternate route.

Alice approached one of the policeman. "Excuse me," she said politely. "Could you please tell me the shortest way to Lavender Town from here? I'm in a bit of a hurry to get to the Pokemon Center!"
