How do you prepare for huge storms?
Stuff like Hurricane Sandy or really heavy rain tends to flood our basement, so we usually need to lay down papers and towels to soak up the puddles of water that come seeping through. We also have a wet/dry vac to suck up the water before dumping it into the toilet. Definitely not a fun job, but it could be worse.
Thankfully, we have enough food to last for quite a while, so I'm not too worried about that.
Storms or not we always have food and water prepared here for if the worst ever happens. Luckily bein down it the south there's never been a blizzard. The has been really bad ice storms though. Knocked the power out for a few days for some, some for weeks, while I was one of the lucky one and it was only off for a single day.
Rain wise we get some bad storms here occasionally, but nothing has ever been super bad that we have to "prepare" for it. It's always the day of that is becomes a hit or miss. Maybe a few pine straw or branch will be blown down time to time, but that's about it. We've been lucky in that regard
The time is upon us...

My house is thunderstorm proofed but we do have a cellar just in case of some freak accident or something. We don't usually get much of anything here though.
I looooooove thunderstorms. :D In our state it doesn't really flood, and we never get hurricanes or tornadoes. The thing we're most at risk for is bushfires, which happen all the time on hot days (which mostly have to be dry). I'm too far into suburbia for that to be a problem though, although bushfires do happen about 45 minutes from me. Usually they're started by tossers who light them. >_>
I find it so weird that America and all these other overseas countries have huge natural disasters like that... We don't get tornadoes or hurricanes. Australia isn't really big on the whole 'disaster' scale. Occasionally the tropics up north might get a flood or two, but the main problem we have are bush fires. Aussie is such a dry, arid land. ;n;
There was one not too far from my house, once. And last year my step-mum's father had to be evacuated from his farm because of a bushfire. Luckily only half the trees burned down, although most of the animals escaped..
But thunderstorms I like.
Prepare? You mean people do that stuff?
In all seriousness, we really don't do all that much to prepare. We just make sure that we have water and gas in the house, which we basically always do anyway. Our area really doesn't get hit hard by storms. Like a lot of other people said, I also really like thunder storms. The problem is that the power in my area goes out if the wind so much as blows a little.
I like storms and that's probably because I never have to prepare for them because they're never that bad here. xD Once this giant gum tree at the end of my street fell on a car on the main road and the power was out for a day and it took them ages to move the tree. But that was still kind of fun in its own way. If it was actually something scary I had to worry about, I probably wouldn't like them so much. I just love having my windows open and seeing the lightning and hearing thunder. My dog hates it though so I always have to let him sleep in my room those nights. xD
Sometimes I just want to stock up on lots of canned food and things though :P Especially after watching Doomsday Preppers. xD
